(KTVI) – Secret Service agents rushed former U.S. President Donald Trump off the stage at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, following gunfire.

Trump’s campaign said in a statement that the former president was “fine” after the shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania. A local prosecutor said the suspected gunman and at least one attendee are dead.

The shooting at Trump’s rally is being investigated as an attempted assassination of the former president and presumptive Republican nominee, law enforcement officials tell the Associated Press.

Several politicians from Missouri and Arkansas have responded to the situation:

“It’s a wonder Donald Trump is alive. Let’s call this what it was. An assassination attempt with at least one innocent bystander murdered. The nation needs to know who did this. And why. And we need a full, public investigation by Congress into HOW it happened.”

“The Senate Homeland Security Committee must investigate this assassination attempt and attempted mass murder and get to the bottom of how it could have happened.”

    Eric Schmitt (Missouri U.S. Senator)

Schmitt, a Republican, offered the following statement to OzarksFirst:

“I’m praying for President Trump and everyone who was in attendance at the rally, including the family and loved ones of the innocent attendee that was reportedly shot and killed.
