Donald Trump said he was shot in the "upper right part of my ear" in statement after shooting

BUTLER, Pa. — Donald Trump said he was shot and hit by a bullet in the "upper part of my right ear" in a statement following a shooting at a rally in Pennsylvania, CNN reported.

Trump released the following statement on Truth Social:

“I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania," Trump said. "Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

The Butler County district attorney said the shooter at Donald Trump's rally in Pennsylvania is dead and at least one attendee was killed, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

Donald Trump's campaign said he's "fine" after he was rushed off stage at a rally in Pennsylvania following apparent gunshots that rang through the crowd.

According to AP, the suspected shooter and at least one rally attendee are dead after the incident on Saturday.

Bangs started ringing through the crowd when the former president was showing off a chart of border crossing numbers during his last rally before the Republican National Convention opens on Monday, AP said.

In the video being aired on Fox News Channel, Trump could be seen reaching for his face, which appeared to have blood on it, before he ducked behind the riser.

The bangs continued as agents from Trump's protective detail rushed him off the stage. Screams could be heard in the crowd of thousands of people.

Trump motioned to the crowd with a fist pump into the air as he got into his motorcade and they cheered back at him.

Police began vacating the fairgrounds shortly after Trump left the stage in what local officers described as a crime scene, AP said.

Chief of Communications for the United States Secret Service Anthony Guglielmi said Trump is safe in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).

"An incident occurred the evening of July 13 at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania," Guglielmi said. "The Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former President is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available."

According to AP, President Joe Biden was briefed on the incident, the White House said.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) said in a statement on X that he had been briefed on the situation and Pennsylvania state police were on hand at the rally site:

“Violence targeted at any political party or political leader is absolutely unacceptable," he said. "It has no place in Pennsylvania or the United States."
