A Pennsylvania firefighter and two other local residents were identified as the victims in the shooting that targeted former President Donald Trump in a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Authorities on Sunday identified the person killed as Corey Comperatore , a firefighter from Sarver, Pennsylvania who had two daughters and was an avid Trump supporter. The two men injured in the shooting – a 57-year-old New Kensington, Pennsylvania, resident and a 74-year-old resident of Moon Township – were in stable condition on Sunday, according to an update from Pennsylvania State Police.

The suspected shooter, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks , was also killed by authorities moments after shots were fired.

Who are the victims?
In addition to Comperatore, there were two other men who were critically injured but are now in stable condition.
These are names of the three victims, according to the Pennsylvania State Police:
- Corey Comperatore , 50,- Deceased. Was from Sarver, Pennsylvania.
- David Dutch, 57 - In stable condition. Dutch is from of New Kensington, Pennsylvania.
- James Copenhaver, 74 - In stable condition. Copenhaver is from Moon Township, Pennsylvania.
Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, also said Saturday on X, formerly Twitter, that his nephew was among those with minor injuries at Trump’s rally in Butler.
On Fox News Saturday, Jackson told host Sean Hannity that a bullet had grazed his nephew’s neck. He noted on X that his nephew is doing well and that his injury was not serious.
USA TODAY reached out to the FBI and Secret Service for more information regarding the victims.
Comperatore died saving his daughter and wife
When shots were fired, Comperatore threw his wife and daughter onto the ground to protect them.
"The media will not tell you that he died a real-life super hero," said Allyson in a Facebook post. "They are not going to tell you how quickly he threw my mom and I to the ground. They are not going to tell you that he shielded my body from that bullet that came at us."
Comperatore was "the best dad a girl could ask for," said his daughter.
She described him as a man of God, who "loved Jesus fiercely," and looked after the family's church and its members.
GoFundMe
A GoFundMe for the victims and their families was created by Meredith O'Rourke , a top Florida GOP fundraiser.
The fundraiser, which aims to raise $1 million for those "wounded or killed," was authorized by Trump, according to the GoFundMe.
Other top donations so far include $25,000 from investor and entrepreneur John Shahidi, a Southern California native behind several companies, among them Shots Studios , described as "an entertainment company that uses data to create the next digital stars."
Also donating were conservative commentator Ben Shapiro ($15,000), Florida Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson ($10,000) and Trump's daughter Ivanka and husband Jared Kushner ($10,000).
Other notable donors and contributions include:
- Vivek Ramaswamy - Entrepreneur, former Republican presidential candidate: donated $30,000
- Kid Rock - A musician, donated $50,000
- Ben Black- Donated $36,000
Another GoFundMe was set up to support Allyson after the loss of her father.
"Saturday night, our friend and family, Allyson, lost her father due to a senseless, tragic act at the Trump Rally in Butler," states the GoFundMe.
The fundraiser was looking to raise $7,000, but has since raised nearly $500,000 to support the young woman.
"Dear Allyson and family, I just wanted to do something, to honor your father," commented Dennis Heritage, a person who donated to the fundraiser. "I hope you can find comfort in the love of friends, near you and from around the world. I also hope his strong faith in Christ gives you encouragement and hope. Your family has been - and is - in my prayers."
