Minnesota political leaders on both sides of the aisle are condemning the Trump rally shooting in Pennsylvania, where two people including the alleged shooter were killed Saturday.

"Violence has no place in American politics," Gov. Tim Walz (DFL) tweeted shortly after the shooting. "Praying for the safety of former President Trump and everyone at his rally in Pennsylvania."

Both state parties posted similar reactions; the Republican Party of Minnesota asked for prayers for former President Donald Trump — who escaped the shooting with a minor injury — while the Minnesota DFL tweeted that the party "unequivocally condemns this appalling and horrific act."

These sentiments were echoed by Minnesota's entire congressional delegation — both U.S. senators and all eight representatives to Congress:

"Thankful for the quick actions by the Secret Service and the response by local law enforcement to maintain the public’s safety throughout this heinous act," said Rep. Brad Findstad, a Republican who represents Minnesota's 1st Congressional District.

"Whoever is responsible for the attack against former President Trump must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law," Democrat Rep. Angie Craig tweeted. "I’m praying for the safety of the former president and those in attendance at his rally."

"We are praying for healing for President @realDonaldTrump , the Trump family, and our entire nation," GOP Rep. Michelle Fischbach said Saturday. "May God bless all of us."

What we know about the shooting so far

The incident, which claimed the lives of a rallygoer as well as the suspected gunman, is being described as an assassination attempt.

The FBI has identified the deceased suspect as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. He was shot and killed by the Secret Service shortly after gunfire erupted at the scene.

Bomb-making materials were found inside his car near the site of the rally, the Associated Press reports .

The investigation is still underway, so a motive is not yet clear.

Two other rally attendees were critically injured in the incident, reports say.
