(WTRF) — Here’s a look at this week’s top headlines.

The country is on guard following the attempted assassination of former President and presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump.

The FBI has identified the shooter at Saturday’s rally for Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania as 20-year-old Thomas Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.

Trump says a bullet pierced his right ear, releasing a statement saying it was “God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening.”

One person who attended the rally was killed and two others were critically injured.

President Joe Biden has ordered a review of security at the event, as well as a review of security measures for this week’s Republican National Convention.

The Secret Service is investigating how a gunman who shot and injured Trump was able to get so close

A man has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the shooting of another man on Wheeling Island three years ago.

The verdict came back for Niyahjah Hales following a four-day trial in Ohio County court.

Hales shot 41-year-old Michael Jackson outside of the VooDoo Lounge on January 28th, 2021, with Jackson dying from his injuries that March.

Prosecuting Attorney Shawn Turak says Hales faces a sentence between 10 and 40 years.

A human trafficking sting based out of Steubenville resulted in the arrests of 10 men.

City police worked with the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force, after leads were found on internet traffic.

The suspects are from Follansbee, Wheeling, Mingo Junction, Weirton, Bellaire and Steubenville, along with others from Pennsylvania.

Each have been accused of soliciting prostitution.

After months of being closed to pedestrians and traffic, the Market Street Bridge will be replaced.

West Virginia Senator Shelley Moore Capito announced 87.5 million dollars will be put toward a new bridge from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Senator Capito had previously written to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to advocate for federal funding.

The bridge connects Follansbee and Steubenville and was closed in December after inspections showed the cables weakening.

The demolition of the former Wheeling Inn took place Wednesday, as the city prepares for a new visitor’s bureau.

The awning was removed to allow easy access to clear out the contents of the building, including furniture and hazardous materials like asbestos.

Wheeling CVB Executive Director Frank O’Brien says once the building is demolished, it will be the first time in 150 years the Suspension Bridge will be visible from Main Street.

The city will have a livestream as demolition continues.

Wheeling Inn demolition begins as crews remove awning

After several years of construction, Trinity Health System opened the newest wing of its West Campus this week.

The new 88-bed patient tower contains new equipment designed to make patients more comfortable and nurses experience a faster workflow.

The rooms are built that patients can see out of windows without turning their head, contain chairs for caregivers to sit down next to patients, and feature new lifting systems.

Following some final inspections, the tower is expected to be open to the public in a few weeks.
