Much has been of the Secret Service detail after the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pa., on Saturday.

Many are seeking answers as to how a shooter could position himself on a roof so close to a former president and current presumptive Republican nominee. One theory suggested that some Secret Service members were relocated from Trump’s rally in Butler to a Sunday campaign event for First Lady Jill Biden in Pittsburgh. It was a theory that the Secret Service rejected.

On Sunday, a social media post from a White House correspondent from Real Clear Politics advanced the idea of personnel being diverted to the First Lady’s campaign event.

“This is the problem that my Secret Sources have cited: Secret Services resources were diverted to Jill Biden’s event and away from Trump’s because they followed agency protocol applying to Trump as a former president, according to two sources within the Secret Service community,” Susan Crabtree posted on her X account . “There were also many supplemental agents from different field officers (not Trump’s regular detail) providing security at the rally because Trump’s regular detail has been overworked (some working 7 days straight), and only two counter-snipers.”

“Who made the decision to divert the resources to Jill Biden’s event?” Crabtree asked on X.

The Secret Service, however, officially denied this report. Anthony Gugliemi, the chief of communications for the United States Secret Service, rebuked Crabtree’s claim in a post on X.

“Susan, this is very wrong,” Gugliemi said. “We did not divert resources from FPOTUS Trump & protection models don’t work that way. As far as “field office teams” these are the candidate nominee operations teams that are added during election years for the heavy travel tempo.”

Another theory about Secret Service failures claimed that members of former President Donald Trump’s campaign team requested additional officers for protection, which the Secret Service also denied.

“Theres an untrue assertion that a member of the former President’s team requested additional security resources & that those were rebuffed,” Gugliemi posted. “This is absolutely false. In fact, we added protective resources & technology & capabilities as part of the increased campaign travel tempo.”
