Secret Service’s Explanations for Security Failures Ahead of Trump Assassination Attempt ‘Aren’t Adding Up’: Experts

Since the near-fatal attack on Former President Donald Trump during his July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania , there has been a slew of conflicting accounts from law enforcement and Secret Service entities.

Knewz.com has learned that nearly all of this incongruent information pertains to the roof the late would-be assassin , Thomas Matthew Crooks, laid on when he fired at Trump.

One particularly glaring discrepancy stems from a statement by the Secret Service’s Director, Kimberly Cheatle .

In a recent interview, she said that a decision was made not to put a sniper on the roof because its slope posed a safety hazard.

Former Secret Service agent Anthony Cangelosi criticized Cheatle’s excuse saying “Let’s just say the local law enforcement officers [and] the Secret Service agree that it’s just not safe to keep someone up there for a couple of hours.”

“Then the question is, well, how do we maintain its integrity otherwise? It’s not like you just throw your hands up and say ‘can’t do that.’”

Crooks decimated Cheatle's defense before it was even made when he climbed onto the roof with his backpack, assumed a stable prone position, and fired a shot that came close enough to killing Trump despite being a bad marksman.

Laying further waste to Cheatle’s defense is the fact that the roofs of the buildings where there were Secret Service snipers stationed are also sloped.

Another former law enforcement officer, Peter Yachmetz, claimed that Crooks “moved around” on the allegedly dangerous roof and “the slope didn’t affect him.”

Cheatle, amidst finger-pointing at the local Butler Sheriff’s Department (BSD), alleged that the building in question fell within a zone for which both the BSD and her agency were responsible.

“In this particular instance, we did share support for that particular site and that the Secret Service was responsible for the inner perimeter,” she said .

“And then we sought assistance from our local counterparts for the outer perimeter. There was local police in that building — there was local police in the area that were responsible for the outer perimeter of the building.”

Said local police , however, have since denied being in the building claiming instead, that they were stationed in the adjoining structure.

Micheal Slupe, who heads up the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, has since spoken to the press and initially suggested that the responsibility of securing the building in question belonged to the Secret Service.

Slupe has since indicated that he is distancing himself from the media as there were “too many fingers being pointed.”

“I am in charge of the Deputy Sheriffs and no other law enforcement agency. My Deputies performed their duties at their assigned areas and went above and beyond after the shooting started and ended in their actions to help people and assist police in clearing the nearby buildings,” he said .

Rep. James Comer has acknowledged that while the Secret Service's actions made the country proud, there has to be accountability. By: MEGA

The Secret Service’s Director Cheatle is scheduled to be examined in a closed-door congressional meeting on July 22.

House Oversight Committee chair, James Comer, who announced the upcoming hearing acknowledged the bravery and work put in by both the Secret Service and the local law enforcement but noted that an investigation was needed to better understand how Crooks accessed the building in question’s roof.
