Trump poses with uniform of firefighter killed at rally with misspelled name on jacket

Ex-President Donald Trump honored firefighter Corey Comperatore at the Republican National Convention Thursday night by presenting his firefighter suit even though it didn’t accurately spell his name.

The name of Corey Comperatore , the fire chief who was murdered in the assassination attempt on Trump at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, was misspelled on the jacket brought to the convention stage. But that was not Trump’s doing. The Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company confirmed it was his gear and that it was sent to Trump, which the former president shared in his speech.

Amid the politician’s speech, he mentioned Corey, revealing that he contacted the Comperatore family. Trump kissed Corey’s firefighter helmet on stage as she showed his respect for the slain hero.

While the volunteer fire department gave no reason for the misspelling, it responded to a reader who pointed out the mistake on its Facebook page, noting that it “was in error years ago, and it was left that way by Corey.”

On X, formerly Twitter, many commended Trump for taking time during his speech to commemorate Corey.

“Trump's got Corey Compatore's kit up there with him. That is a perfect touch,” one X user wrote.

Another shared, “Corey Compertore's fire fighter gear was sent to the RNC, and the moment was very moving. The families of every one injured will be taken care of with over 6 million raised, but this tragedy should not have happened. #TrumpRally #RNC #News.”

A third wrote, “What an incredible speech by Donald Trump tonight, his tribute to Corey Compatore with kissing his bunker gear was just tear jerking as you could feel Trump’s compassion for that family in that moment. Just an incredible man I hope the haters wake up and see the real DJT.”

Corey is survived by his two daughters, one of which who has spoken out following her father’s death. His daughter Allyson said on Facebook that “time stopped” and when it restarted again she and her family “started living a real-life nightmare.”

The abovementioned Trump rally that Corey was killed at happened on Saturday, July. 14. Gunshots rang out shortly after Trump had been talking on stage. The FBI named the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks.

A few moments after the shots rang out the officers helped Trump to his feet, surrounding him as they walked him off the stage. His ear was bloody and there was blood was on his face as he fist-pumped to the crowd while the agents escorted him away.
