After surviving an assassination attempt, former President Donald Trump is now claiming that he “took a bullet for Democracy” and is also slamming the Secret Service, claiming they blew it and he only owes his life to Immigration — as it was an immigration chart that saved his life.

As we previously shared, on Saturday (July 13), Donald Trump was hosting a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania when a gunman opened fire, leaving Trump grazed on his right ear, one person dead, and at least two others severely injured. The Secret Service snipers killed the gunman, who was identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks , of Bethel Park, PA. Crooks opened fire from a nearby rooftop with an AR-15-style rifle.

The victim who passed was identified as 50-year-old former fire chief Corey Comperatore . He is survived by his wife and two daughters, whom he shielded as bullets flew at the rally. After the shooting, Donald Trump took to Truth Social to thank the Secret Service for their prompt response, send condolences to the families of all of the victims, and reveal that “a bullet pierced [his right ear] during the shooting.

Shortly after the incident, current President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris spoke out, in addition to former President Barack Obama . On Sunday (July 14), former President Donald Trump’s wife, former First Lady Melania Trump, also issued a statement on the assassination attempt on her husband. Melania called the gunman a “monster” and urged America to “reunite.”

After surviving the assassination attempt, Ronny Jackson , Donald Trump’s former White House physician, said he spoke with him over the phone and he claimed he was alive today because he diverted his focus of attention as shots rang out. Speaking with the New York Times , Jackson, who is now a Texas congressman, said Trump believes his life was spared when he turned sideways to check immigration statistics from a chart displayed on a screen while on stage.

As soon as Donald Trump turned his head toward the immigration chart, Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire missing Trump’s head, instead grazing him on the right ear. Jackson said Trump specifically credited the “border patrol” and the “border patrol chart” for saving his life.

There are several viral photos and digital renderings showing the bullet’s trajectory and Donald Trump’s head as the incident unfolded. One photo in particular was taken by New York Times photographer Doug Mills , who was able to capture the moment the bullet whizzed through the air above Donald Trump’s shoulder, nearly missing his head. Mills told ‘CBS Mornings,’ he believed the greatest photo taken at the rally was of Trump raising his fist after being nicked on the ear; however, in comparison to his photos of the whizzing bullet, he realized he had captured a super rare and historic moment.

A week after the assassination attempt, Donald Trump held his first rally where he claimed he “took a bullet for Democracy,” and how he again is grateful to be alive, owing his life to Immigration. At his rally in Michigan, Trump said, “We had the best border. The safest border. The border that saved my life. You know, I was pointing to an immigration border sign when I made this turn, and then they went that way instead of that say. So, I owe immigration my life. It’s true.”

Trump also denied knowing anything about Project 2025, claiming, “They keep saying, ‘He’s a threat to Democracy. What the hell did I do for Democracy? Last week I took a bullet for Democracy. What did I do against Democracy?” Elsewhere, Trump slammed the Secret Service for allowing him to get struck. While speaking with Fox News host Jesse Watters , along with his VP pick J.D. Vance , Donald Trump slammed the Secret Service for not protecting him in Butler, Pennsylvania.

In a teaser clip for the special that will air on Monday (July 22), Trump said the Secret Service never informed him there was a gunman on a building rooftop before he took the stage and got shot. He also said the government agency could have had him wait 5 to 20 minutes until the threat was eliminated, a move he called a mistake. Donald Trump also condemned the Secret Service for allowing the gunman to climb up on the rooftop and take position despite several rally-goers screaming that there was a man with a gun way before he took the stage.
