    UPDATE: Child seriously injured after crash on I-75 in Butler Township

    A child was seriously injured after a crash in Butler Township early Thursday morning.

    The crash happened at 12:11 a.m. on Interstate 75, near Interstate 70.

    According to a spokesperson for the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the preliminary investigation showed a 2016 Hyundai passenger vehicle, driven by Peter Simpson, 36, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was heading southbound on I-75 when it hit the rear of a 2004 Chevrolet station wagon driven by Aayden Byrd, 18, of Trotwood. The Hyundai came to rest in the roadway.

    Byrd was transported with suspected minor injuries to Kettering Health Dayton.

    Two of Byrd’s passengers reported no injuries at the scene. Byrd’s third passenger was transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital with suspected serious injuries.

    Simpson reported no injuries at the scene. He was cited for assure clear distance ahead.

    All lanes southbound I-75 were closed down due to the crash for approximately one hour.

    The crash remains under investigation at this time.
