BUTLER, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Carter County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said human remains were discovered in the Butler community of Johnson County on Saturday.

A news release from the CCSO said a joint search Saturday by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the CCSO, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the William L. Jenkins Forensic Center and the Carter County Emergency and Rescue Squad resulted in the discovery of the remains.

Questions remain around inmate Fletcher’s trusty status

“The remains have been sent to the William L. Jenkins Forensic Center in Johnson City for identification and a forensic examination,” Johnson County Chief Deputy Shawn Brown said.

Daughter of missing Carter County man Victor Birchfield, Tiffany Cole, told News Channel 11 on Saturday that she believes the body found to be that of her father’s.

Dep. Chief Brown said Saturday while an exact timeline isn’t certain, he hopes to be in touch with the assisting forensic center by mid-week.

“I would like to thank all the agencies who assisted us in this search,” Carter County Sheriff Fraley said. “The investigation is ongoing at this time, and we will release additional information as we are able.”

No additional details were released by the sheriff’s office.
