    Perry arrested after traffic stop

    Randy Perry Jr. from of Vance County was arrested after a traffic stop on I-85 near Butner on July 14.

    Investigator Chavez and his K-9 partner made the stop of the vehicle traveling southbound on I-85.

    During the stop, Perry began displaying signs that he may have been under some type of influence according to a social media post by Crime Stoppers and Robert Fountain Jr., sheriff of Granville County.

    Chavez detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and Perry was ordered to step out of the vehicle.

    At this time Perry began to act very erratic and attempted to reach into his left pants pocket, according to the post by Crime Stoppers and Fountain.

    Chavez then requested Perry to submit to a frisk for any weapons. While frisking Perry, a 9mm pistol was discovered inside his pants.

    A probable cause search was conducted on Perry’s vehicle and a book bag containing approximately 1.5 pounds of marijuana was discovered according to the social media post.

    Perry was arrested and transported to the Granville County Sheriff’s Office where he was charged with carrying a concealed weapon (misdemeanor) and felony possession of marijuana ( felony).

    Perry was also wanted in Vance County.
