Lizzie Pritz and Zaylee Rae Linsmeyer are the two contestants in the 2024 Pioneer Days Queen Pageant. The pageant has been held since the festival started 66 years ago.
The 2023 Pioneer Days Queen Lydia Wartgow will be present to crown the new queen at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27 in the main building at Butternut Area Park.
The pageant is open to girls from fifth-grade to high school seniors, according to pageant director Denise Kane. The winner is determined solely by whomever sells the most raffle tickets.
The first official duty of the new queen will be to pull three raffle tickets for cash prizes, she said.
“The girls get 25% back on their ticket sales,” Kane said.
The second duty of the new queen will be to ride in the Pioneer Days Parade on July 28, she said. The queen will then participate in regional parades over the course of the year, some of which include Flambeau-Rama, the Bayfield Apple Festival, and the Glidden Fourth of July.
Zaylee-Rae Linsmeyer
I am 11 years old. I will be going into sixth grade this year. My parent is Kayla Linsmeyer and my grandparents are Larry and Robin Linsmeyer. I have one older sister, Rhianna, and one younger sister, Hayden.
I live in Butternut, where I have lived my whole life. I enjoy making crafts and crocheting. I also enjoy sports. During the school year I play volleyball and basketball. I also run track.
Pioneer Days has meant a lot to me. It is a celebration of our community and a time for friends and family to get together. The reason I am running for Pioneer Queen is because it gives me a chance to communicate with members of the community and to meet new people.
