Massachusetts' Summer EBT Program to Provide $120 Per Child for Groceries During School Break
Massachusetts residents with school-aged children may be in need of some financial relief during the height of summer. The Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA), in collaboration with Governor Healey, has implemented the Summer EBT program, an initiative designed to assist families with additional funds for groceries. According to a statement from the City of Boston, eligible families will receive $120 per child to address food insecurity when school is out.
Two teens arrested, charged with robbing 9-year-old boy at gunpoint in Boston
Two teens have been arrested for allegedly robbing a 9-year-old boy of his cellphone at gunpoint in Boston Thursday, police say. The young boy was at Children’s Park at the corner of Intervale and Fernboro Street waiting for a cookout around 6:30 p.m. when two 15-year-olds approached him and took his cell phone at gunpoint, Essex County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said. The two 15-year-old teens were charged with armed robbery and threat to commit a crime in West Roxbury Juvenile Court on Friday. “Being robbed at gunpoint is a terrifying experience for anyone. But the age of the victim here, and the ages of the charged juveniles, adds an extra layer of shock and heartbreak. I commend this young boy and the adults present for providing the information that led to the arrest,” Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.
Car Crashes Into Oak Bluffs Home
A person was taken into police custody early Friday morning after a car ran into a home on Samoset avenue in Oak Bluffs. Firefighters responded to the corner of Kennebec avenue and Samoset avenue at 12:44 a.m. for a report of a Dodge Charger hitting a house, Oak Bluffs deputy fire Chief Stephen Foster said. There was no one in the home at the time.

Accident leads to up-Island power outages
Up-Island police responded to two accidents overnight on Thursday evening, one that cut power in multiple towns. In West Tisbury, police responded to a single motor-vehicle accident on State Road close to midnight. Chief Matt Mincone said that the driver — 23-year-old Isabelle Cole from Chelmsford — crashed into a utility pole. A witness told police that the vehicle had flipped over and was smoking from one of the tires.
Restaurant owner charged in North End shooting last year pleads guilty
The owner of a restaurant charged in a shooting last year near a popular bakery in Boston's North End has pleaded guilty. Patrick Mendoza pleaded guilty in Suffolk Superior Court to charges of assault and battery attempt with a firearm, armed assault to murder, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, illegal possession of ammunition and carrying a firearm without a license.

BOSTON (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers traded pitcher James Paxton to the Boston Red Sox for minor league infielder Moises Bolivar on Friday. Bolivar, a 17-year-old from Venezuela, hit .270 with three home runs and 19 RBIs with the Dominican Summer League Red Sox. He agreed to a minor league contract with Boston in January for a $25,000 signing bonus.

Supt. of Hingham Public Schools Year Two Evaluation
Superintendent of Schools Margaret Adams was rated “needs improvement” overall during the school committee’s evaluation this week, following her second year on the job. The School Committee met with Dr. Adams on Wednesday, June 24, to conduct her annual evaluation. During the meeting, the Chair of the School Committee, Nes Correnti, read Dr. Adam’s performance review and noted that similar to last year, she worked through the ratings and committee comments with the Vice Chair to complete the evaluation.
