Trends come, trends go, and fashion cycles around again. And sure, many current trends — broccoli haircuts, for example, or the return of JNCO jeans — are unforgivable. But some trends need to stick around forever. Recently, I decided to ask our very own BuzzFeed Community to tell me the 2020s trends they actually love that need to stay in fashion forever; so, here are their answers!

    1. "Large sunglasses. 😎"

    2. "As a tall girl, midi and maxi dresses. Growing up, skirts and dresses were all short. While I don’t mind (and do wear) shorter lengths, as a professional I need options that don’t make me feel super exposed."

"As someone who overheats easily during the summer but also needs to be work appropriate, yes, this!"

    3. "[I love] the less-is-more approach to makeup. Think back to 2016 makeup trends and just how elaborate they were."

"I feel like you were shunned if you didn't have an absolute mask of full coverage foundation with an extreme contour. I'm not saying it looked bad, it was just a lot. Now I feel like more people are okay with not layering on tons and tons to create elaborate looks. Simple makeup is okay!"

    4. "Cowboy boots! As a southern girlie who has lived in New York for eight years, I've loved rocking these with a pair of denim shorts in the summer now that they're back in fashion. I'm sure they'll be "out" of style again soon, but they're one of those things that always comes back in. :)"

    5. "Big hair! I love the blown-out, Matilda Djerf style hair."

"It looks so pretty and (depending on just how professional you want it to look, doesn't have to take that long. I hope it sticks around for a long time."

    6. "The ready availability of nondairy milks and gluten free bread/baked goods!"

"For too long, I've suffered eating food that hurts my stomach because of convenience. 😓"

"I love this too! It’s more acceptable now. I’ve been lactose intolerant my whole life. Hated school lunch when the lunch ladies forced me to drink milk."

    7. "Remote work for those who have jobs that can be done that way. The quality of life improvement cannot be understated."

"As of last year, I was able to find 5+ pairs of pants that didn’t make my autism flip out because they weren’t clinging to my legs and making my skin hurt. Leaving the house is filled with less dread now because of it."

    9. Not technically '20s, but "[I loved] The 2010’s electropop craze. David Guetta, Zedd , Calvin Harris , etc. all released such BANGERS and brought EDM more into the mainstream."

    luxahoy

    10. "The Y2K revival. Sure, I was in elementary school during the 2000s, but it makes me nostalgic for those simpler times."

"Worst times for me, I was in middle school and high school."

    11. "Boot-cut jeans, please. Wear whatever you like but please don’t take these away from us again. There should be options, always!"

    12. "The 'quiet luxury' trend. There’s something nice about seeing someone owning quality clothes/objects that don't have a big brand name emblazoned all over them."

    —Anonymous

    13. "Bangs! Curtain, butterfly, front, side, I love them all."

"I've been wanting to get some for the longest time but I can't decide. I especially love Sabrina Carpenter's and Taylor Swift's bangs."

    —Anonymous

    14. "Sneakers with every outfit. And not just any sneaker — the big, chunky, grandpa sneakers. I love 'em."

"As a woman, it's so refreshing to be able to wear comfortable, supportive shoes everywhere I go and have it be 'fashionable!' I'm sure the tide will turn and we'll all be back to stilettos in 10 years, but not me. New Balances till I die."

    —Stella

    15. "'Coastal grandmother' and 'eclectic grandpa.' I love any trend that emphasizes slow fashion and building up cool pieces in your wardrobe — all while developing your unique style."

"I find the focus on 'old money' to be a bit elitist, but I do like that it prioritizes sustainability. These grandma/grandpa trends, don't quite have that classism but do have the timeless looks. Plus, they're so relaxed."
