We all want a clean and comfortable space, but the struggle for a spotless home can feel like an eternal one. Enter: lifehack Reddit.

On r/lifehacks , u/ECU_BSN asked: " What are your BEST house cleaning lifehacks? " People answered in droves with their own low-effort, high-reward tricks for clean living, and WOW some of these are just too good:

    1. "Clean your ceiling fans with an old pillowcase! Just slide it over the blade, pull it back, and all of the dust will fall into the bottom. Shake it out when you're finished."

    2. "Put a trash can outside the door; don't bring anything in that will get thrown away. Junk mail, packaging, etc... Best thing I ever did."

    3. "When I go to sweep my kitchen, I just sweep it all against the more barren wall and run the broom down the line to pick it up. Makes it so much easier."

    4. "Any time I use fresh lemon juice for a recipe, I use the lemon halves to clean my microwave. Pour boiling water over the lemons in a microwave-safe bowl and cook in the microwave for five minutes. The steam will loosen any particles so you can easily wipe it down and the lemons make it smell great."

    5. "To clean the bathroom floor, use your damp towel from this morning. Put a lint roller on a stick to pick up loose hair."

    6. "I use makeup remover wipes every night. After I clean my face with one side, I use the other side to clean part of the bathroom, like the faucets or the counter."

    7. "If your bedroom is messy: Put all of the loose clothing and other items on the bed, then relocate it all, right away. Clothes either go in the laundry basket or get folded and put away in a drawer. Close all drawers and closet doors for a tidy look. A tidy room in less than five minutes."

    8. "Keep cleaning products convenient to the place where you need to use them. I keep disinfectant wipes, window cleaner, and paper towels in both my kitchen and bathroom."

    9. "Grab an empty laundry basket and fill it with anything that doesn't belong in the room you are cleaning. You can carry the basket with you as you put everything away."

    10. "Use a damp dryer sheet to clean your bathtub. It takes off the soap scum with almost no scrubbing."

    11. And another dryer sheet hack: "You can use used dryer sheets to clean your baseboards. Since they're anti-static, they'll also keep them clean longer."

    u/ophelia917

I had no idea they were this versatile.

    12. "Wipe down the bathroom counter and other surfaces right after you get out of the shower. Because of the condensation, you won't need any cleanser, and it takes less than a minute."

    13. "Don't set things down in the wrong place. You're basically forcing yourself to do twice the work because you'll have to pick it up later and put it where it goes. Think of it this way: Putting it away the first time is a more effective way to be lazy and your space will look better too."

    u/deleted

    14. "Put an entire roll of trash bags at the bottom of your can before lining the can with a bag from said roll. Every single trash can in my house now has its own supply of trash bags. This trick changed my life."

    u/deleted

    15. "I play Call of Duty . Between rounds, I pick up dishes, clean them, make my bed, put clothing in the laundry, dust, wipe surfaces, etc. By the end of a gaming session, I have a clean house. Guilt-free gaming, because I'm being productive."

    16. "Whenever you leave a room, throw something away or put something where it belongs. It may not seem like much, but it's very easy and if done enough, your house stays clean and tidy. I always leave a room a little bit cleaner than when I entered it."

    u/Haggawaa

    17. For managing clutter: "The kitchen drawer full of junk? Put it all in a box, and as you use it, it goes back into the drawer. After three months, whatever's left in the box goes. Lots of clothes you don't wear? Hang all your clothes with the hanger hooked from the backside of the rod, and as you wear them, hang them back up normally. After three months, toss anything still hung backward (taking into account seasonal wear, of course)."

You can also do the clothing trick for a whole year to account for seasonality.

    18. "Buy small, cheap handheld vacuums, and keep one on each level of your house. It will suck up all the hair on your bathroom floor, crumbs your kids leave behind, and little lint balls. It is much easier than a lint roller and produces much less trash. It will also reduce the number of times you have to pull out the big vacuum to tidy up, which usually makes you postpone vacuuming."

    19. "Stubborn spaghetti sauce stains on the stove? (Or stains in general.) Leave a damp cloth on them for an hour; come back, and wipe it right off."

    20. "Best de-greasing tip for kitchen extractor fans: Remove the metal filters and place them in an empty sink. Take dry baking soda and mash the powder into the congealed grease. Plug the sink and pour white vinegar over the filter. The chemical reaction will dissolve grease. Rinse with hot water. Put your sparkling clean filters back in the extractor fan."

    u/islandbaygardener

    21. And a similar hack for the covers on your stove: "If you've got a lot of cooked-on grime on the covers over gas stoves, put the covers in a plastic zipper bag, add a few tablespoons of ammonia, and let sit overnight. The next day, take them out (preferably outside to avoid making your kitchen stink) and use a paper towel to wipe them down. Grime slides right off with minimal scrubbing, if any."

    u/mcavanah86

    22. "When I decide to clean a room, I start a playlist and set a task to finish by the end of each song: i.e., laundry put away by the end, room vacuumed by the end of the next."

    23. "To clean your shower/bath, mix vinegar and dish soap in a spray bottle, spray everywhere, then go about your day. When you have time, rinse it all off and all the dirt goes with it, with minimum scrubbing for the really grubby bits."
