Whenever they post about something they are looking for on the marketplace, I send it to them from Amazon. It ain't much, but it makes me happy. I hope it makes them happy."

    14. "Every month, I pick a charity and donate $200 to it. I pick a theme sometimes — like, for June, it’s Pride, so I give to the Rainbow Railroad. In November, for Remembrance Day, I send it to a seniors veterans' hospital, and they use it for little 'wishes' — they have going to the movies, or getting a haircut, or new slippers, just little comfort things, usually. If there’s no obvious theme for the month, a food bank or animal shelter gets the donation. They can do more good with the funds than I can spending it on crappy takeout or something equally stupid."

    15. "Years ago, when the pandemic just started, I was living with this roommate who I really did not like. He was kind of territorial and was very bad about sharing the space, including common areas, with me and my husband. We had just gotten our $1,200 checks at that time, and I wasn't sure what to do with mine. Fast forward a couple of months later, he had started a fundraiser campaign to try to pay back a past-due balance for a storage unit that had a lot of his stuff in it. He owed about $1,800. He had only raised $900, and there was only one day left before his fundraiser when the stuff in the storage unit was going to be auctioned off."

"At the time, we didn't have a place because I had decided to move out, and I couldn't stand living with him anymore. But at the same time, I kind of pitied him, and I realized that I would probably be feeling very desperate myself if I faced the loss of all my important stuff to auction because I was unable to pay a balance. So I decided to donate anonymously to his campaign the remaining $900 so he could get his stuff out. He was able to keep all the stuff and get everything out of the storage unit.To this day, he still doesn't know, and I prefer to keep it that way, lol."

    16. "When I go to work, I leave the house earlier than I would need to, just to spend some 10–15 minutes feeding sparrows that usually frolic not far from my home. It became something of a ritual for me, and it feels almost meditative to watch those small birds happily pecking at the seeds I throw them."

    18. "I hate scallops. My wife loves scallops, and occasionally, she gets really excited about having them for dinner. I do the cooking in the house and she tells me how much she likes how I cook them. Honestly, I just sear them in a pan with a little oil and season them with salt and pepper. I don’t like the taste of them or the texture of them, but I love how happy she gets when I put a plate full of them in front of her and her complimenting my cooking just sends me over the moon. So, I choke down a few scallops for her. I’d eat an ocean full of scallops for her, though."
