People Are Spilling The Wildest Stuff They've Caught Their Neighbors Doing, And It's Bananas

We recently covered a Reddit thread by u/Karin_Loo that asked folks to share the weirdest thing their neighbors have ever done. BuzzFeed Community members then submitted their own wacky neighbor stories. Here's what people revealed:

1. "A guy in our neighborhood rides a motorized unicycle daily while wearing the same bedazzled patriotic outfit and blasting patriotic songs from a boombox he has somehow fitted to the unicycle. From what I can tell, he takes the same route every day."

2. "I lived on the outskirts of Austin in a semi-rural area. I woke up one night and went to pee around 3:00 a.m. I looked out the living room window and noticed lights in the pasture behind the trailer across the road. I watched for a while as red laser light beams crisscrossed the earth. I went back to sleep. The next day, I asked the dude what they were doing. He said they were super high and using laser pointers to play with their chickens."

3. "I have a neighbor across the road who used to scream loudly at the setting sun like some sort of reverse rooster. I say 'used to' because a few years ago, I got fed up and screamed 'SHUT THE F UP!' at him, and I haven't heard him since."

4. "There is a midnight griller a few houses down from me. Constantly, all week, this guy starts up his grill around midnight, grills for a few hours, and then goes to bed. He's done it for years. Last year, he added one of those projection lights he set up to go through many colors. He turns it on when he starts grilling. It's like a party for one."

6. "We had an eccentric neighbor who decided to start a vendetta against a flock of crows that would fly around the neighborhood. She got the local newspaper involved after she found a dead bunny in her birdbath and decided to write an editorial about the town's crow problem. She was featured on the front page with a headline about her spat with crows and later regretted it when she saw many of the letters stating she was an 'old kook with no life' a few days after her article ran."

7. "My apartment neighbor urinates on the grass outside his first-floor unit. Needless to say, the grass is dead only around his pad. Uugghh!"

8. "I had a neighbor that stole my dog (a chihuahua) right in front of me. He denied to the police that he had done it. I found out he had dropped her off way out in the woods when my caregiver found her trotting down the road and brought her home. I was so happy. He never would say why he did it and always acted like he couldn't speak English when confronted. I got her an AirTag and didn't walk her anymore."

9. "We lived across the street from an older woman who decided we were not the right family for the neighborhood. After she sent the local police to our home for the third time, we had a discussion with her son. He made it clear to her that she had to stop harassing our boys, who were 9 and 6. So, she stopped having her lawn service cut the area where our mailbox was on her property. It was full of fire ants and about a foot tall. My husband treated the ant mound at night. Then, a week later, he cut the grass around our mailbox. She called the police. The cop told my husband that he couldn't cut the grass, even though it was by our mailbox, without her consent, BUT he could file a complaint, and the county would cut it and fine her $250. Every other Monday morning that summer, the county measured the grass, cut it, and sent her a fine. Her son moved her that fall."

"I used to live in Florida in an equine neighborhood, and every so often, there would be four or five horses who got loose, and their owners would 'round' them up by having one person drive a truck and another would stand on the hood with a rope and yell 'giddyup' and 'yaw' and manage to herd them back to their corral. Ahh, Florida, ya gotta love it!!!"

11. "A neighbor has a life-sized Jason Voorhees statue up all year in their front garden. It makes me so happy. At Easter , they'll put bunny ears on him. Last year, they added tombstone decorations to their yard at Halloween and left them up through Christmas. They just draped Christmas lights over them and Jason. I don't know them and have never talked to them to let them know Jason makes me smile."

12. "My grandma had a feud with the neighbor who lived behind our house. Our yard was on a hill, so puddles would collect at the bottom of the hill in his garden when it rained. He always blamed my grandma for that instead of gravity."

13. "I live in a rural area outside of a large college town. I have a neighbor who recently got into breeding horses (which she knew NOTHING about!). At one point, she had 10 horses on maybe two acres that were fenced. I've only ever seen her ride one a couple of weeks ago. My young grandson was jumping about 20 feet from the road on his trampoline when she rode by on one of the horses. She began SCREAMING at him, saying he was going to get her bucked off. He had no idea what he was doing wrong, so he got down and started running towards my house, and she screamed at him even more."

"She didn't see his mom sitting there, watching it happen. She won't even look my way after I confronted her about it. You don't rule the road, and you damn sure don't scream at someone else's child like that. I've never had an issue with her before that (except I take issue with her running a puppy mill and now breeding horses, too)."

14. "We live in an apartment complex that overlooks a small parking lot and loading dock area in the back of a building that used to house a Walmart. The building has been technically empty for years now; Walmart uses it for warehousing, so trucks rarely use the docks. One of our neighbors pulls into the lot on random days and evenings — we never know when to expect it — in his crappy car with some kind of monster engine under the hood. He does donuts in the loading area for maybe 15-30 seconds, then peels out and disappears in a puff of smoke."

"There are circular tread marks all over the dock area. If he does it in the daytime, he brings another guy along on a little scooter who sits near the entrance, I guess, as a lookout or a witness, or maybe he's posting it to social media, and the scooter guy is filming on his camera? We have no idea. I want to know how much he spends on tires and if he's actually driving around our big city like that. I've seen and heard neighbors with loud engines, but nothing as consistent yet random as this guy."

15. "We have a neighbor who enjoys shooting off massive rockets in his driveway, which is against the north wall of my house. If we're sleeping, it shakes us awake. He used to do it about 3:00 in the morning! Since all the neighbors started calling the police, he now does it right before the 10:00 p.m. quiet hours start! I'm afraid one of his rockets will come crashing through my window!"

16. "When I moved in, my next-door neighbor's front yard was (mostly) mowed, but there was knee-high grass between the sidewalk and street. Assuming his lawnmower had conked out, I mowed the strip when I did my own for the first time. Several neighbors thanked me. He was furious, though. He had planted several invisible lavender shrubs under the tall grass, and I had damaged them. The next spring (still not speaking to me), he spent days digging new holes with a tablespoon to plant more lavender and used white plastic spoons and forks as markers. All year long, whenever I was working in my yard and neighbors passed by, they would point at his yard and ask, 'What's with the spoons?' The year after that, he finally spoke to me to complain that someone had stolen his forks and spoons and thrown them in the street."

"One early spring day, when the snow was melting and turning the streets and sidewalks to slush, we saw our neighbor pouring out several buckets, coffee cans, and liquid coolers into the driveway and alley that our houses shared. My husband went to check out what was happening and discovered a small stream of liquid and solid excrement — HER feces and urine — that was flowing down the alley. Come to find out that she had stopped using her plumbing because she believed Home Depot was monitoring her via cameras in the sewer system. The police only gave her a citation for littering."

18. "I have this neighbor who will get drunk and play rock music in the middle of the night. He gets mad when my dog barks and swears at it, and after a while, he will bark like a dog."

19. And: "I was 59 when I bought a home and moved into a senior community. I got a good deal on the house, and it was in a gated community. I didn't think anything about it being a senior community. Everyone else in the community was older, in their 80s and 90s, and had all moved in when the community was built about 20 years earlier. They all knew each other very well. I was still working and not home much to do any of their activities with them, and apparently, I was the talk of the community. Various neighbors, including ones I hadn't met yet, would come to my door with questions. 'Can we come in and see what you changed in the house?' 'Why aren't you married?' 'Do you want to meet my brother? He isn't married either.' 'Where did you buy the angel statue that you put in your backyard?' 'Can you get me a discount where you work?' Etc."

"I just stopped answering the door. They would also run outside whenever I would try to walk my dog, follow me around, ask me more questions, and tell me very personal things about their lives I didn't want to know. I loved my house there and loved the backyard. I worked so hard to make it beautiful, but I had to move. Even though I was older too, the 20-year age gap between me and the other residents created a BIG difference in our outlooks. They just couldn't get over the fact I was a working, single woman who did not want to get married, stop working, or go on cruises with them. I could tell you more stories (like how they had nightly drunk golf cart races in front of my house because my street was the only straight street in the community to race on), but I don't think anyone would believe me!"
