Chappell Roan Is Being Called Out After She Posted A Photo From Her VMAs Rehearsal On The Day Of The Paris Concert That She Canceled Last-Minute Due To “Scheduling Conflicts”

Last week, Chappell Roan upset thousands of fans when she suddenly canceled two dates from her European tour and rescheduled another on incredibly short notice.

On Aug. 29, just two days before her scheduled show in Berlin, Germany, on Aug. 31, Chappell revealed that it had been postponed to Sept. 23.

She also canceled her Paris and Amsterdam gigs, which were scheduled for Sept. 3 and 4, entirely.

“Due to scheduling conflicts, I have had to make the extremely hard decision to cancel my Paris and Amsterdam shows. I have rescheduled my Berlin show to 23 September,” she wrote on social media at the time. “I am so sorry & very disappointed :( I promise I will be back. I’m heartbroken 💔 thank you for understanding.”

Needless to say, ticket-holders were both shocked and saddened by the last-minute announcement — especially as many had booked transport and accommodation to attend the shows, which could not be refunded with just a couple of days’ notice.

It is also notable that Chappell’s tour went on sale back in March, which is before she broke through to the mainstream this summer.

Therefore, it’s not lost on fans that her Berlin show has been moved from the 3,500-capacity venue Columbiahalle to the 12,000-capacity Velodrom.

Amid all this, speculation began to grow that Chappell had canceled her concerts so that she could attend rehearsals for the MTV Video Music Awards, which she will perform at next week.

And on Tuesday, the star sparked backlash when she shared a photo of herself doing exactly that — on the date of what should have been her Paris show.

Some, however, defended Chappell, insisting that choosing the VMAs over her pre-arranged concerts would have been a no-brainer career move.

“there is not a single person that wouldn’t cancel a 1500 capacity show to perform at the vmas shut the fuck up,” a particularly popular tweet reads.

But critics were quick to point out that the short notice was the most significant factor in the backlash, not Chappell canceling in general.

One wrote : “its understandable she wanted to do the vmas performance, the issue is with her giving her fans 0 notice of the cancellation till days before when they were then unable to get refunded ! hope that helps x”

“those 1500 people are important. buying tickets is a business transaction. cancelling at the last minute is unprofessional,” one more wrote .

“We have now gotten to the point where ‘setting boundaries’ has become, ‘she can do whatever she wants, she owes you nothing.’ Cancelling a long time planned show bc you got a better opportunity will makes fans upset. She is free to do what she wants but not from criticism,” another tweeted .

Chappell was previously accused of being “passive aggressive” when she reacted to the disappointment from her fans in an Instagram comment at the weekend. She wrote at the time: “I’m very sorry :,( I explained why I canceled and I know it sucks but hopefully ppl can understand <3 I promise I will b back xoxo”

And the entire situation comes after Chappell divided followers when she made two different statements in a bid to establish boundaries with her fans, telling them that it is “creepy” when they approach her in public and ask for photos.

“I don't want whatever the fuck you think you're supposed to be entitled to whenever you see a celebrity,” she said in one of the posts. “I don't give a fuck if you think it's selfish of me to say no to a photo, or your time, or for a hug.”
