'Biggest race of my life:' Local motocross racer prepares for national championship in TN
A local motocross racer is soon heading to Tennessee in hopes of being crowned the fastest in the country. Seven-year-old Maverick Novak is getting ready to race against 41 other kids in his age group for a national championship. “This is the biggest race of my life,” Novak says.
FAFSA Clinics Next Week Supporting UC Families
The Tennessee Higher Education Commission is offering free FAFSA clinics to give Upper Cumberland families hands-on support while applying for federal student aid. Senior Outreach Director Jason Seay said they have always had FAFSA workshops at high schools and colleges throughout the state but families need more support this year. Seay said last year’s revamping of the system has led to technical issues and some parental concerns.
NU makes emergency repairs to restore power
There were several tree-related power outages over the past weekend that required Newport Utilities to make emergency repairs. NU reports the outages were caused by falling debris landing on numerous power lines during the storms that came through the area. Knox County Commission considers resolutions aimed at improving Beaver Creek, including Powell area
POWELL, Tenn. — Knox County Commissioners voted Monday after considering resolutions aimed at improving Beaver Creek. One resolution effectively approves a grant contract to remove the Coward Mill Dam in northwest Knox County and stabilize Beaver Creek's banks. By removing the dam, county leaders hope to promote water quality and fish passage. According to the resolution, Knox County will receive up to $546,600 from the Resource Protection competitive American Rescue Plan Grant.
Police identify victim after body found in Oak Ridge, suspect still at large
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Detectives with the Knoxville Police Department are investigating a homicide after a teen’s body was found in a truck bed in Oak Ridge. KPD said it received a report Monday afternoon that a man, identified as Juan Carlos Diaz Perez, had “gravely injured” his girlfriend, Suceli Perez, 18, at a home in the 1200 block of Mercer Street.
