Award-winning Amsterdam poet visits Charlottesville for book signing
New Dominion Bookshop in Charlottesville will host a book reading and signing with award-winning poet CAConrad on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 7 to 8 p.m. CAConrad will read from their latest poetry collection, “Listen to the Golden Boomerang Return,” which was released from Wave Books in spring 2024. The in-person event will be free and open to the public. The bookshop recommends arriving early for the best seating.

Faculty Senate discusses academic freedom, free speech at the University
In its first meeting of the semester, the University's Faculty Senate hosted Ian Baucom, executive vice president and provost, for a discussion about academic freedom at the University, including what free speech protections faculty have as both private citizens and University employees. Baucom also stated that the right to free expression as private individuals can mutually exist with the University faculty’s commitment to academic freedom, and that in the classroom professors should encourage free discussion, inquiry and expression.
