BYERS, Colo. — At least four homes and four other structures were destroyed in a 1,100-acre brush fire near the Arapahoe County town of Byers Saturday.
According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, the Quailhollow Fire, as it is being called, has been fully contained. There have been no reports of injuries.
The brush fire started out about the size of a football field in the 2400 block of S. Quail Hollow Road Saturday morning, but quickly grew to more than 1,000 acres amid hot and windy conditions, prompting evacuations of the area.
Deputies evacuated a three-mile area near County Road 193 and County Road 34. It's unclear how many homes were impacted by the evacuation order.
The sheriff's office said it is working with evacuees so they can return home as soon as possible. The Red Cross is helping those who may be unable to return home.

The sheriff’s office said multiple fire departments, including a wildland fire team, were on the scene working the blaze, which was moving fast in the southeast direction.
Fire officials said three single-engine air tankers and a chopper were providing air support while ground crews worked to protect several homes northwest of the blaze.
South Metro Fire Rescue, the Denver Fire Department and Aurora Fire Rescue were among the nearby agencies assisting with firefighting efforts. Aurora Fire Rescue said crews from Engine 9 were able to protect a home from fire.
Officials have not said what may have sparked the fire. Arson investigators are working to determine the cause and origin.
