BYRON, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — One of the biggest weekends of the year is underway at the Byron Dragway. It’s the return of “Glory Days” vintage drag racing. If you love old-school cars, this is the event for you.

Every vehicle on-site dates back to 1966 or earlier. Some of these cars and trucks go back to the 1930s. They get a lot of T-L-C from their owners, but when they get on the strip, they go full-throttle.

These cars move fast, but this event isn’t about setting speed records. It’s simply an opportunity for racers and fans to connect and to share their love of vintage vehicles.

The action started Friday. It picks back up Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with a car show, and then racing follows at 11 a.m. and continues throughout the day and into the night. Sunday, the Byron Dragway will host its “Hot Rods and Harleys” event.
