Beloit attempted homicide suspect bound over for trial
The 23-year-old Beloit man charged in a non-fatal shooting on April 28th on the 700 block of Oak Street is bound over for trial. Travion Hamilton had his preliminary hearing in Rock County Court last week on charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Seebach’s Sweet Corn open for 2024 season, rain has aided growing
ROCHELLE — Seebach’s Sweet Corn kicked off its 2024 season of sales at 11594 E. Kyte Road in Flagg Center last week. The Seebach family has grown and sold sweet corn at the location for over 40 years. The tradition of selling sweet corn was started by the late Jerry Seebach, and it has since been carried on by his sons, Jeff and Scott, their stepmother, Christy and other family members and seasonal help.

Earthquake Shakes Illinois: Shocking Footage Inside (Video)
A 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck Northern Illinois early this morning. The earthquake occurred a little before 3 a.m. in Southern DeKalb County, near the town of Somonauk. The earthquake was felt in various locations including Winthrop Harbor, Cary, and Yorkville. Heather and Cory were awakened by the quake, initially mistaking it for a storm. Marcia in Winthrop Harbor reported feeling her house shake. A resident in Cary noticed the loud and rumbly noise, distinguishing it from thunder. Dan in Yorkville also felt the earthquake.

Lawmakers say two recently passed bills save motorists time, enhance convenience
(The Center Square) – The Illinois legislature voted to provide motorists an option at the DMV of a four-year or eight-year driver’s license. They also approved the option of having a digital driver's license. State Sen. Andrew Chesney, R-Freeport, who supported Senate Bill 275, said the eight-year license is double the cost, but the time savings and convenience will be attractive to many motorists. Three communities in farthest northern Illinois are holding public meetings this week. The Village of Rockton’s Board of Trustees met at Rockton Village Hall at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. The meeting was scheduled to include public comments from Julia Scott-Valdez, Director of Management Services for Four Rivers Sanitation Authority, and reports from village officials, including Mayor Peterson and the village attorney.
