'Herd immunity,' also known as 'population immunity,' is the indirect protection from an infectious disease that happens when a population is immune either through vaccination or immunity developed through previous infection.'
If everyone gets the vaccine, we look out for the whole and stop the virus in its tracks. If we don't reach herd immunity (80–90% of the population vaccinated), we will be dealing with some version of the virus for the next two decades or more, as we are now experiencing the Delta variant. Let's hope the United States doesn't make it through the Greek alphabet, and more people get vaccinated.
Viruses don't mutate if they can't replicate.
If we stop transmission and replication, we won't get any more variants. It is really that simple.

There is no natural immunity. This virus was created in a lab to jump from animal to human, we humans have not had to deal with this before.
