Cañon City Police arrest two ‘suspicious’ men for possession of narcotics, unlawful carrying of concealed weapons
Two armed Cañon City men were arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of possession of a “substantial quantity” of narcotics in the 1100 block of Monroe Avenue. The Cañon City issued a media release Monday stating Jesse McAlhany, 31, and Ezra Davis, 20, were arrested just after 1 a.m. while responding to a report of two suspicious persons that were on bicycles and hanging around behind some houses.
Fremont County Coroner IDs woman who died after being struck by vehicle in Florence
Fremont County Coroner Randy Keller identified the woman who died after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday in Florence. The pedestrian, Rosemary Karner, 71, of Illinois, was struck by a box truck at about 6:20 a.m. near the intersection of Colo. 120 and Colo. 115. Keller said she died at the scene.

Thomas Addington on Monday was found guilty a second time of second-degree murder in the shooting death of 40-year-old Amanda Yellico in Fremont County District Court. A jury found Addington, 65, guilty of murder in the second degree on Jan. 31, 2020. On April 1, 2020, he was sentenced to 38 years in the Department of Corrections.

Traffic stop leads to seizure of fentanyl, methamphetamine and heroin
A traffic stop at Ninth Street and Whipple Avenue led to the seizure of illegal narcotics. A Cañon City police officer on May 26 pulled over a vehicle driven by Angelina Madison, 34, who was found to have had a suspended license. According to a media release, during the traffic stop, an open-air sniff was conducted by the CCPD K9, Kasio, who alerted to the vehicle, indicating the possible presence of narcotics. Officers subsequently searched the vehicle and located 1,641 fentanyl pills, 105.2 grams of crystal methamphetamine, and 5 grams of black tar heroin.
