Tired of the heat? Chill out with the Donkeys in Cripple Creek, Colorado
The Two Mile High Club (TMHC), caretakers of the Cripple Creek Donkeys, invites you to the 93rd Annual Donkey Derby Days festival, June 28-30, in Cripple Creek, Colorado. This free three-day festival features something for everyone, starting with live music on Friday night. Saturday morning begins with a beautiful old-fashioned parade at 11:00, featuring Fort Carson 4th Infantry Division Color Guard and Band, the Al Kaly Shriners, and much more, continuing with live music, beer gardens, two days of donkey races up Bennett Avenue, a fun Kid’s Zone, more than 90 vendors and food trucks, and other attractions.
Donkey Derby Days is back this weekend, and so is KKTV
CRIPPLE CREEK, Colo. (KKTV) - Friday through Sunday, Donkey Derby Days will be in full swing at Cripple Creek, and KKTV will be competing. Donkey Derby Days is a festival in Cripple Creek famous for their annual donkey races. KKTV’s own Digital Content Manager Tony Keith participated in the donkey race last year and plans to race again on Saturday!

Back in the late 1800s, a story was told about a rancher having a calf tripping while crossing a meandering stream, often referred to a “cripple” creek, in the grazing areas located west of Pike’s Peak. Cattle frequently injured themselves crossing the stream, so the name Cripple Creek stuck.
Jennifer Tareco
Dr. Jennifer Marie Tareco (nee Lindsey) of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, died on June 15, 2024, after a tragic scuba diving accident. Jennifer was born on March 23, 1966, in Florence, Colorado, to Darrell and Nancy (Singleterry) Lindsey. She graduated as valedictorian of Florence High School before earning her bachelor’s degree at Creighton University, again graduating as valedictorian . She received her medical degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She remained at Hopkins for training in orthopedic surgery and subsequently specialized in pediatric orthopedic surgery through a fellowship at NYU’s Hospital for Joint Diseases. She had four children, John James (JJ), Jesse, Julia, and Jillian. Her children were her pride and joy . She spent much of her time as a lacrosse mom, part time coach, and sideline doctor for their many sports teams. She was their biggest fan and loved them unconditionally with everything she had.
