New artisan shop at Cabin John
Dov & Company, the newest addition to Cabin John Village, is a popup shop showcasing the works of local artisans. The store is run by Colombian-born sisters Maria and Sofia Tapias, who create jewelry from recycled silver and other upcycled materials. In addition to their own line, the store features handmade jewelry from other as well as handbags, kitchenware, home decor, stuffed animals, skincare products, clothes and other goods from D.C.-area artisans. There will be weekly craft workshops, and the store has a permanent make-your-own jewelry bar. You’ll find Dov & Company in the middle of the Cabin John shopping center, between Jurisdiction Clothing and Rewild. If all goes well, it will be there at least through the holidays.

Visitors Advised to Use Caution After Signs of Microcystin Are Reported at Local Lakes
Montgomery Parks urges patrons to use caution when recreating on or near Lake Needwood and Lake Frank located within Rock Creek Regional Park due to potential risks associated with high levels of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria). Water samples from both lakes are currently being evaluated by the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) to determine if levels are harmful. Visual indicators including discolored water and algal mats have been observed in portions of both lakes. Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) can produce dangerous levels of toxic microcystin.

Friday Night Live Jazz at Eastern Market Metro Plaza features the Herb Scott Band at 5:30pm. Scott is a star on the Washington, D.C. Jazz scene. While studying at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts under the award-winning educator Davey Yarborough, he performed with renowned trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and Jazz pianist Herbie Hancock. “The old Ethiopian grocery store at 4600 14th Street NW that burnt down (in 2022) will reopen as a cafe. The lot is across the street from the old bus repair depot that is undergoing redevelopment and on the same block as the dance studio lot that will be redeveloped soon.”
