New Reston Community Center survey focuses on future of Lake Anne facility
Some Reston residents may soon get a survey about the Reston Community Center (RCC) in their mailbox. Launched on Wednesday (July 24), the survey will be conducted by the University of Virginia’s Center for Survey Research (CSR) to gather public input on the community center’s facilities, programs and services to guide future planning.

Tysons Mixed Market is Back and Kicks Off August 21
Tysons Community Alliance is partnering with The Boro and Diverse Markets Management once again to bring back the popular Tysons Mixed Market for its second year. The annual event launched last year as a way to support local businesses, further create a sense of place in Tysons, and bring the community together. Last year’s Mixed Market included over 50 vendors and brought out nearly 2,000 members of the community over the course of six weeks.
Wildfires prompt expanded fire restrictions on BLM lands across Washington
SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash.-The Bureau of Land Management is expanding public use fire restrictions in all counties across the state starting July 26. Restrictions on fires, vehicle use, smoking and shooting are expanding on BLM-managed public lands in Washington due to recent wildfire activity and an increase in human-caused wildfires, according to a BLM press release.
Montgomery Parks offers new Adaptive Mountain Biking Program
The program, tailored for individuals with disabilities, takes place August 4, 2024. WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks is offering a new Adaptive Mountain Biking Program, designed exclusively for individuals with disabilities to experience the thrill of mountain biking. The free program takes place Sunday, August 4, 2024, 10 a.m.–2:30 p.m. at Wheaton Regional Park. Rides are offered in 90-minute time slots. Three certified adaptive mountain bike leaders will instruct and assist riders and experienced mountain bikers will ride alongside all participants. The program is open to people age 16 and older and advanced registration is required.
Antinori Now Sole Owner of Col Solare Winery
Tuscany’s Marchesi Antinori has purchased sole ownership of Col Solare, the Washington winery the two companies launched as a 50-50 partnership in 1995. The sale includes the brand, a winery and 29 acres of vines, mostly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. Col Solare production is approximately 5,000 cases. Marchesi Antinori is a family-owned company that traces its roots back to the 14th century and it established Col Solare in 1995 as a 50-50 joint venture with Ste. Michelle Wine Estates. The two companies have worked together since then to establish the estate’s wines, building a dedicated winery and planting the estate vineyard on Red Mountain in 2006. The new acquisition comes a year after the Italian producer took on full ownership of Napa’s Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, another partnership between Antinori and Ste. Michelle Wine Estates. The sale price was not disclosed.
D.C. Roadway Witnessed Shooting Leading to Man’s Death
Police are looking into a fatal shooting that happened early Thursday morning in Southeast Washington. Around 1:41 a.m., the Seventh District officers received a report regarding a shooting incident in the 3900 block of 1st Street, Southeast. After reaching the location, they discovered a man lying on the road with gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS took the victim to a nearby hospital, but despite their best efforts, he could not be saved and was pronounced dead.
