Look Back: Study on Shaw concludes
Excerpts from the writings of Stephen Chester Shaw, who came to Parkersburg and Wood County in 1826, and in 1876 wrote “Sketches of North-Western Virginia” continues. In the last segment, Shaw identifies a few of the emigrants who in December of 1785, built a blockhouse at Belleville, in what would become Wood County. In the Spring of 1786 more arrived. Shaw’s writing now continues:
