Copperopolis Woman Arrested After Child Left In Roadway
Copperopolis, CA — The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office reports that a woman was arrested following an incident on Quiver Street and Little John Road in Copperopolis. Witnesses stated that 33-year-old Ashley Marie Agasi was allegedly acting erratically, yelling at dogs nearby, throwing rocks, and attempting to wave down vehicles. She was also holding a one-year-old child. At one point she put the young girl (who was only wearing one shoe) on the hot pavement while confronting the driver of a vehicle who stopped.

Update: Fire In Valley Springs Stopped
Update at 6 p.m.: Fire crews have made quick work of the Gill Fire burning in the Wrinkle Cove area of Calaveras County, as its forward spread has been stopped at one acre. The blaze ignited in some grass along New Hogan Parkway at South Petersburg Road in the Wrinkle Cove area after 5 p.m. Crews were able to knock down the flames within half an hour of arriving on the scene. A small crew will remain, working towards full containment and then mopping up. What sparked the Gill Fire is under investigation.

Update: Overnight Fire In Copperopolis Contained
Update at 9:15 a.m.: The Pyle Fire that ignited in the Copperopolis area of Calaveras County just after midnight last night has been contained, and it was not a flare-up from the Aero Fire. CAL Fire reports that the flames were spreading at a slow rate on O’Brynes Ferry Road near Pyle Road. Firefighters were able to stop the forward spread within 20 minutes of arriving on the scene.CAL Fire Spokesperson Emily Kilgore released this statement regarding the cause, “Contrary to rumors floating through the CAL Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit, the Pyle Fire was NOT associated with or a rekindling of the previous Aero Fire despite its proximity to the Aero Fire. Investigators have determined the Pyle Fire to be the result of a vehicle accident, with subsequent vehicle fire that spread to vegetation, burning 3.8 acres.”
Crews halt progress of San Joaquin County wildfire near Calaveras County line
Forward progress of a wildfire that began Monday evening in San Joaquin County has halted, with some of the fire contained, according to Cal Fire. The fire was first reported Monday 5:30 p.m. at North Waverly and East Flood roads, east of the unincorporated area of Linden, near the Calaveras County line. As of 7:30 p.m. Monday, the fire had burned 215 acres, but Cal Fire could not immediately comment Tuesday on how much of the blaze was contained. The site is about 30 miles west of the Aero Fire, which is at 95% containment after burning 5,200 acres. Though lighting was recently reported all around the area covered by the Cal Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit, the cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation by Cal Fire. Dubbed the 1-2 Fire, multiple surrounding fire agencies have collaborated to battle it, according to Cal Fire.
Aero Fire: Copperopolis residents return home
All evacuation orders for the Copperopolis area’s Aero Fire were lifted last week. This large vegetation fire, which was first reported on Monday, June 17 at about 3:30 p.m., was still active as of press time for this article. However, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) was reporting on June 25 that 95% of the fire had been contained.
