CALDWELL, Kan. (KSNW) — A Kansas farmer has honored his late wife and brother while bringing awareness to the disease that affected both of them.

Al Melichar of Caldwell lost both his wife and brother to Alzheimer’s disease within the span of eight months. Melichar served his wife as a care partner for many years until her death.

Following her death, he became an advocate for others who have been affected by the disease. Melichar has served on caregiver panels, assisted with the Alzheimer’s Association Kansas Education Conference on Dementia, and provided assistance with support groups.

Most recently, Melichar decided to create a piece of art to honor his late wife and brother. Using a mower, Melichar created a 90,000-square-foot replica of the Alzheimer’s Association logo.
