The Caledonia/Houston wrestling team took part in the Section 1AA team meet at Kasson-Mantorville, losing in the semifinals and ending their team season Thursday, Feb. 15.

The meet took place in Kasson-Mantorville, with the Warriors facing off against Waseca in the first round. Caledonia/Houston came out hot, taking six of the first seven bouts, including wins by Lange (133), Blocker (139), and Denstad (145), all by pinfalls.

The latter half of the bouts included wins by Will and Cooper Allen, both by fall at 160 and 172 respectively, as well as a win by Logan Kinstler (Caledonia/Houston) over James Quade (Waseca) by pinfall at 285. Caledonia/Houston won the matchup over Waseca by a score of 54-21, and the team moved on to face Kasson-Mantorville in the section quarterfinals.

Against Kasson-Mantorville, the team knew it would be a tough, and the Komets proved that their prowess was justified. Kasson-Mantorville won the dual and moved on in the section tournament by a score of 57-12. Braxton Lange at 133 and Owen Denstad at 145 were the sole victors, accumulating the only points for the Warriors in the second dual.

That ended the team season for the Warriors — the next step for the Caledonia/Houston wrestling team will be the individual sections starting on Friday, Feb. 23.

A big shout out to Isaac Blocker for achieving his 150th win during the dual in Wabasha-Kellogg as well. Blocker said, "It's great to have an accomplishment like this that I can share with my coaches, partners and support system after the work everyone has put in to achieve goals like this that I have set."

And what another great season for senior Owen Denstad who surpassed former Caledonia wrestler Kasey Meiners' 2004 record with win number 187 on Feb. 9 against Houston. Denstad wrestled at 145 pounds and went 71-2, with 42 pins, eight technical falls and eight major decisions. He has committed to wrestling for Upper Iowa University next season. Denstad has been to state twice. He took third in 2023 as a junior for the Class A 132-pound division, and he also placed third at that weight as a sophomore.

Denstad said, "I'm super blessed and grateful to have the people around me that I do, and I think it's a big reflection on the people in our room and how much time we put into this sport. It's really cool to be able to share a moment like that with Kasey, too. He's someone that everyone looks up to and what we strive to be like in life."

    Triangular

Before the section meet, the team traveled to Wabasha-Kellogg for a triangular, going two for two in duals Tuesday, Feb. 13.

At Wabasha-Kellog, the wrestling team took on the Fillmore Central/Lanesboro/Mabel-Canton Wolves in the first dual. The Warriors would win this one by a score of 63-9. Highlights of the dual include Aiden Burns (Caledonia/Houston) over August Pfeffer (Wolves) with a fall at 1:15 for 107, Isaac Blocker (Caledonia/Houston) over Connor Wingert (Wolves) by decision(4-1) 139, and Owen Denstad (Caledonia/Houston) over Boston Wright (Wolves) by fall at 3:38 at 145.

The second dual set Caledonia/Houston against Wabasha-Kellogg, and the Warriors won by a score of 58-16. Some highlights of this dual include Braxton Lange (Caledonia/Houston) over Henry Cushman (W-K) by fall at 3:12 for 133, Will Allen (Caledonia/Houston) over Will Killeen(W-K) via fall at 3:20 at 160, and Cooper Allen (Caledonia/Houston) over Justin Bergmann (W-K) by major decision (15-1) at 172.
