The boys and girls Warriors track teams both traveled to Plainview-Elgin-Millville on Friday, April 12 for multi-team meets.

The wind was a big factor in some event times, as athletes ran into it for some of their heats; the pressure was on to perform.

    Girls track

On the girls side, some highlights included relays. In the 4x100 relay, Losiah Gay, Sienna Augedahl, Chloe Lange and Nicole Banse placed third. In the 4x200m relay, the girls nabbed fifth place with Mariah Von Arx, Lillian Thies, Chloe Lange and Nicole Banse in that slot.

On the field, Nicole Banse placed sixth in the long jump, while Campbell Cognac placed eighth and Maggie Ideker 10th in the shot put.

Coach Bechtel posted on social media, “For many of the girls, this was their first track meet and a number of leaders were a little banged up. Overall, the girls performed very well, and I was glad to see everyone having fun.”

    Boys track

On the boys side, multiple Caledonia athletes placed in the top six for the 100m and 200m dash. Josh Beardmore took first, Eli Staggemeyer took third and Jason Schock took sixth in the 100m dash.

Fischer Wait took first, Owen Staggemeyer took third and Gabe Curley took fourth in the 200m dash. Wait also secured first in the 400m dash.

In the 4x100 relay, Eli Staggemeyer, Gabe Curley, Owen Staggemeyer and Josh Beardmore took second — with Beardmore unfortunately cramping up in his leg of the race.

On the field side for the boys, Jordan Tornstrom took third in the boys discus throw — in a strong field of throwers, according to coach Wait. Mason Schroeder was the highest placing Warrior in the shot put at 13th place.

A highlight of the evening for the boys squad was the relay of Owen Staggemeyer, Gabe Curley, Josh Beardmore and Fischer Wait taking first place with a time of 1:30.31 in the 4x200 relay.

From coach Wait, via Facebook: “That is an amazingly fast time for this early in the season. That time puts us right up there with the fastest relays in the state, regardless of class.”

Coach Wait had this to say about the meet overall: “The times were slow last night, due to a very strong head wind. It was a battle for every kid at the meet fighting that wind, but I liked what I saw in our kids’ attitudes and efforts. The first outdoor meet was a huge success.”

The next meet saw the teams traveling to La Crosse at Logan High School on Monday, April 15. The next meet after Monday will be in St. Charles on Friday, April 19 at 4:30 p.m.
