After starting the year with a competitive loss to Zumbrota-Mazeppa, the Lady Warriors softball squad has come back roaring and had an extraordinary week to sweep their opponents to take their record to 5-1 on the season.

The Lady Warriors started out the week against the Lewiston-Altura Cardinals at home on Tuesday, April 9. Braelyn Lange (No. 4) took to the circle for the Warriors and had a great day with five innings pitched and 11 strikeouts.

After giving up one run in the first inning, Caledonia started the bottom of the first absolutely mashing the ball. Kennedy Hansen (No. 11), Vivian Kittleson (No. 1), Annah Anderson (No. 3) and Aubrie Klug (No. 5) all hit doubles en route to a six-run first inning.

The second inning saw the lead extended with RBI singles by Elsa Blum (No. 7), Hansen and Paizley Lange (No. 47) for four runs. The third inning saw the onslaught continue via a single from Avery Augedahl (No. 2) and another double by Lange to bring the score to 14-1 in the third.

From there, the Lady Warriors would cruise to a victory via the fifth inning and a 10-run rule victory. Top performers at the plate included Hansen who went 2-2 with 4 RBI, Lange would also support her cause by herself going 1-1 with 2 RBI, Klug would go 3-3 with 1 RBI and Anderson going 2-2 with 1 RBI.

    Rochester Lourdes

Thursday, April 11 saw Caledonia Area travel to play against Rochester Lourdes. The game would start out slow, as Augedahl took to the circle and had a solid outing herself. All seven innings, three hits and eight strikeouts for Augedahl provided a solid base for the Warriors to take control of the outing.

Both team’s offense struggled until the sixth inning with a 1-1 tie. Lange, starting at shortstop, started off the rally with a walk, followed by Blum with a single. Hansen doubled to score both ladies, and they tacked one more run to make it 4-1.

Lourdes scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Warriors put the game out of reach by scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh to win 8-2.

Top performers here were Lange, who went 2-2, Blum, who went 1-4 with 3 RBIs, and Hansen at 2-3 with 2 RBIs.

    Dover-Eyota

On Friday, April 12, Caledonia faced off against the Dover-Eyota Eagles in Dover-Eyota. Lange delivered on the mound against the Eagles and had another huge day, going seven innings, only allowing four hits, and earning 14 strikeouts.

The Warriors went up early by three runs, highlighted by a home run from Blum over the center field fence.

The sixth inning saw Anderson smoke a three-run homer over the left field fence to drive the lead over the Eagles to 7-0. The Eagles scored three in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough.

The final score qa in favor of the Warriors at 7-3. Top hitters included Blum and Anderson, both going 1-3 with clutch home runs. Hansen and Lange would go 2-4 as well.

    Onalaska double header

Saturday held a doubleheader at Onalaska High School for the Lady Warriors, and they would face off against La Crosse Aquinas in the first game. Lange took the circle again for another complete game, only allowing one hit and striking out seven.

Caledonia fell behind 1-0, but rallied back in the fourth to go up 5-1. Kittleson added three more off of a home run to left field to make it 9-4 Caledonia.

Top hitters include Anderson going 3-4, plus Adrienne Lange, Blum and Paizley Lange going 2-4 in the win.

The second game of the day saw the Warriors up against Onalaska Luther. Augedahl threw 15 strikeouts and only surrendered four hits in her outing. The Warriors jumped out to a six-run lead early and not relinquish the lead for the game.

Top hitters include Augedahl going 3-3, Adrienne Lange 3-4, and Blum 3-4 to support the cause.

The Warriors softball team was next set to battle at home against the St. Charles Fighting Saints on Tuesday, April 16. They then play a home doubleheader against Rushford-Peterson starting 4 p.m. Friday, April 19.
