    Warriors baseball wins against tough Blair-Taylor team, take two from R-P

    The Caledonia Area Warriors baseball team started off the week against Blair-Taylor at home on Monday, April 15 and came away with a well-fought 4-1 win. Them, on Friday, April 19, the Warriors traveled to Rushford-Peterson in harsh wind and cold conditions to win both doubleheader games 4-1 and 8-1.

    On the mound for the Warriors, Will Allen had a great game against the Wildcats, but they struck first in the first inning, scoring a run early. The Warriors remained scoreless until the third inning, where Ben Stemper singled and scored two runs to give the Warriors the lead. They tacked on a run in both the fifth and sixth innings to go up 4-1 and get the win.

    Top batters against Blair-Taylor were Reid Klug going 2-3 and Tanner Ginther going 2-4 with two stolen bases.

    Allen was credited with the win, allowing only one hit, one run, while collecting eight strikeouts over five innings. Drew Yahnke pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts to give the Warriors the win.

    On Friday, the Warriors traveled to Rushford-Peterson to tangle in a doubleheader against the Trojans. The first game saw Yahnke take the mound against the Trojans. The Warriors didn't take long to start scoring, as Owen Denstad doubled in the first inning, scoring three runs early.

    Tanner Ginther increased the lead to four with a run off of a ground out in the second inning. The fourth inning saw four more runs come across the plate, highlighted by a two-run home run to center field by Garret Konz. Stemper and Yahnke helped the cause, both singling in a run to make the score 8-0. The

    Trojans were able to put a run on the board in the seventh, but the Warriors held on to a sizable lead and took the first win.

    Top batters for the first game included: Konz going 3-4 with 2 RBIs, Denstad 1-3 with three RBIs, and Stemper and Yahnke both going 1-3.

    Yahnke went six and one-third innings, allowing just four hits and one run, while striking out six and holding the Trojans down for a majority of the game. Reid Klug came in at the end of the game to close it out with an earned strikeout.

    The Warriors continued to have success at the plate in the second game, with Landon O’Heron on the mound to start.

    Rushford struck first in this game, batting in one run in the first off a single. The Warriors retaliated quickly, scoring four in the bottom of the first, with Klug driving in two runs off a single.

    The second inning saw the Warriors bat in one off a fielder’s choice by Hunter Goetzinger to make it 5-1. The bottom of the third saw a renewed onslaught sparked by a solo shot to left field by Klug.

    The Warriors scored four runs in the third, and then one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings. The game was called via the 10-run mercy rule in the sixth, giving the Warriors their third win of the week.

    Top hitters in the second contest were Klug going 3-4 with 3 RBIs, including a solo home run, Stemper at 2-4 with 3 RBIs as well, and finally Konz would going 2-3.

    O’Heron had a solid day, going six innings, only surrendering four hits with one run, and earning eight strikeouts.

    Next up for the Warriors is a game at Rochester Lourdes on Monday, April 22.
