    Caledonia Post 191 Legion baseball team is 6-0, continues spring season fire

    The Caledonia Legion baseball has had a perfect start to the regular season for summer 2024, going 6-0.

    Here's a full rundown of the season so far.

    Post 50 Wabasha

    The Caledonia Legion baseball team squared off against Post 50 on Thursday, June 6 to kick off the season. Game stats were unavailable at the time of writing this article. The final score of the contest ended up with Post 191 blowing Post 50 out of the water by a score of 14-2.

    Post 595 La Crescent

    Post 191 matched up against La Crescent’s Post 595 on Friday, June 7 in La Crescent, with Landon O’Heron starting for Caledonia. Caledonia went up 3-1 in the 1st inning, but La Crescent tied the game up in the 3rd with a score of 4-4. A single by Owen Denstad drove in a run to make it 5-4, and Post 191 tacked on another run in the top of the 7th to seal the win.

    O’Heron pitched only 3 innings after giving up 6 hits and 4 earned runs while striking out none. Garret Konz earned the win, going 4 innings with only 3 hits, no runs, and 6 strikeouts. Top hitters for the day included Reid Klug going 2 for 2 with 2 walks and 3 RBI. Garret Konz would help himself by going 2 for 3, and Owen Denstad and Will Allen also tacked on 1 hit as well.

    Post 94 Legion Trojans Doubleheader

    Post 191 won both games of this doubleheader on Monday, June 10, with the first game won by a score of 12-5. Landon O’Heron looked to bounce back with the start for the first game, and would be credited with a win, going 4 innings, allowing 2 runs, and striking out 2. 191 went up by 5 runs in the 5th inning, and that proved to be insurmountable for Post 94 to come back.

    Top hitters for the game included Hunter Goetzinger going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI, as well as Garret Konz going 3 for 5. Owen Denstad went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI for the first game as well. Overall, Post 191 tallied 16 hits for the first matchup.

    The second game saw a tighter score of 6-4 as the Rushford Legion went out to a 4-0 lead by the end of the 3rd inning. Post 191 had other ideas, as they would score 2 in the 4th and 4 in the 7th late to come back and win in dramatic fashion. Drew Yahnke started for Caledonia, but gave up 4 runs in 4 innings. Garret Konz gets credit for the win, going 3 innings and striking out 3.

    Top hitters in this matchup include Will Allen going 3 for 4 with one RBI, and Reid Klug, Ben Stemper, and Garret Konze all went with 2 hits as well.

    Post 249 Spring Grove

    Wednesday, June 19 saw Post 191 go up against Post 249 of Spring Grove with Reid Klug dominating on the mound for the day with a no-hitter. Klug went 5 innings in a 10-run affair while striking out 9. With three runs in the first, 4 in the fourth, and 3 more in the fifth – 191 secured the victory and an early night.

    Top hitters included Kyle Bechtel and Garret Konz both going 2 for 3 at the top of the lineup, while Hunter Goetzinger, Ben Stemper, Reid Klug, and Owen Denstad all added another hit each.

    Post 90 Lewiston

    Thursday, June 20 matched up Post 191 with Post 90 of Lewiston. This game ended up being a pitching duel between starters, as Garret Konz took the mound for Caledonia Senior Legion. Despite Konz going 5 innings, giving up only 1 run, and striking out 7 – Post 191 needed to get the bats going. Lewiston scored in the top of the 4th to make it 1-0, and Caledonia was up to the task by scoring two in the bottom of the 5th inning. They held onto the lead through a pitching effort by Will Allen and succeeded in winning the matchup 2-1.

    Top hitters included Will Allen and Garret Konz both going 1 for 3 with one run driven in.
