Rebuild Alabama Grant for Calhoun County

Montgomery, AL – The City of Anniston in Calhoun County has been awarded a $350,000 grant under the Rebuild Alabama program. This funding is designated for developing access points on SR-21 (McCellan Boulevard) and the internal road network at the Blackwater Development site. The total project cost is estimated at $3,488,944.

Senator Keith Kelley expressed his support for the project, stating, “This project will provide needed infrastructure for current and future development. I’m always happy to assist with projects that help to bring jobs to our area.” This sentiment underscores the local government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure to foster economic growth.

Governor Kay Ivey announced a total of $3.9 million in state funding allocated to cities and counties for various road and bridge projects across Alabama. Since its inception, Governor Ivey has been a strong advocate for improving the state’s infrastructure, a priority reflected in the Rebuild Alabama Act. This Act, passed by the Legislature and signed into law by Governor Ivey in 2019, mandates the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) to allocate at least $10 million annually from the state’s gas tax revenue for local projects.

“Rebuild Alabama has brought record progress to every single county across this state, and I am proud that we continue delivering road and bridge projects today,” Governor Ivey remarked. She emphasized the ongoing commitment of her administration to enhance Alabama’s infrastructure.

The Rebuild Alabama Annual Grant Program, which facilitated this funding, requires local entities to provide matching funds. This year, cities and counties have contributed over $7 million in local matching funds, ensuring the projects’ timely advancement within a year of receiving the funds.

So far, more than $12 million in state transportation funding has been awarded through the program this year, with additional funding rounds anticipated. Since the Act’s passage, all 67 counties in Alabama have benefited from state transportation funding for local projects.
