His approach will focus on collaboration with local communities, partners, and forest stakeholders, guided by science and technology.

Butler shared his enthusiasm for the position, stating, “I look forward to working with National Forests in Alabama employees, Tribes, federal and state partners, cooperators, national forest stakeholders, visitors, and the public as we steward the land for present and future generations. I am excited to welcome new visitors and underserved communities to enjoy the benefits of national forests.”

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Butler brings nearly four decades of leadership experience to the role. He has worked with various federal agencies, including the United States Air Force, Department of Defense, USDA Rural Development, and the Forest Service. A graduate of Trident University International with a Bachelor of Arts in business administration, Butler has earned numerous leadership awards over the years.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Butler is known for his dedication to mentoring and coaching others to success. In his personal life, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, watching football, and reading.

The USDA Forest Service expressed excitement for Butler’s leadership as he steps into this critical role, ensuring that Alabama’s national forests continue to thrive for generations to come.
