City of Oxford to Host Annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony for Fallen First Responders

Oxford, AL – The City of Oxford is set to join the Oxford Fire Department, Oxford Police Department, and Oxford Health Systems in an annual ceremony to honor the First Responders who lost their lives during the 2001 terrorist attacks on America. This remembrance event, which has become a yearly tradition in Oxford, will take place on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Oxford City Hall, located at 145 E. Hamric Drive.

The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the public is invited to attend and pay their respects.

On that tragic day in 2001, 343 firefighters, 60 law enforcement officers, and 13 paramedics perished at the World Trade Center and on the ground in New York City. Many others have since succumbed to illnesses caused by exposure to dust and toxins during the rescue efforts. These brave men and women are remembered for their sacrifice and their dedication to saving lives, even in the face of unprecedented danger.

This solemn event serves as a time for the Oxford community to come together in remembrance of these heroes and the lives they touched.
