    Georgia-Alabama Land Trust to Host Annual Cave Tour at Weaver Cave Preserve

    Weaver, AL – Cave enthusiasts and nature lovers are invited to join the Georgia-Alabama Land Trust for their annual Cave Tour at Weaver Cave Preserve in Anniston, Alabama. The event, set for Saturday, October 12th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will offer participants a unique opportunity to explore the intricate cave system while learning about the rich history and ecology of the area.

    • Location: Weaver Cave Preserve, 1000 Cave Road, Anniston, AL 36206

    The Weaver Cave Complex is renowned for its natural beauty and serves as a habitat for a variety of species. The tour will not only showcase the geological formations but will also provide insights into the ecology and conservation efforts surrounding the cave. Participants will also be introduced to essential caving practices, ensuring safety and respect for the environment.

    The tour is free to attend, though donations are appreciated to support the ongoing preservation efforts of the Georgia-Alabama Land Trust.

    1. Simple Tour
      Duration: 30 minutes – 1 hour
      Ideal for beginners and families, this tour allows participants to explore the accessible areas of Weaver Cave. Expect some bending and high steps during the walk.
      • Recommended for ages: 8+
      • Required gear: Helmet, headlamp, closed-toe walking shoes or hiking boots, gloves, and durable clothing. Optional: camera.
    2. Complex Tour
      Duration: 3 – 4 hours
      For more adventurous participants, the Complex Tour will take you deeper into Weaver and Lady Cave, requiring participants to descend using ropes, crawl, squeeze through narrow passages, and navigate dark, twisting tunnels.
      • Recommended for ages: 12+
      • Required gear: Helmet, headlamp, closed-toe walking shoes or hiking boots, durable clothing, gloves. Optional: knee and elbow pads, camera.

    Me and some friends crawled through these caves with just cigarette lighters years ago. Long before it was a tour. There's places the only way to get to lady cave you have to crawl on your stomach. There's a Gap to the left you can drop a rock and never hear it hit bottom. I was about twenty years old the last time I was in the cave. That's over 40 years ago.
