Piedmont Police Investigate Domestic Shooting, Suspect Charged with Murder

Piedmont, AL – Officers with the Piedmont Police Department responded to a shooting incident on Hughes Street, where a woman was found critically injured following a domestic dispute.

Piedmont Police were called to the scene in the late hours, where they discovered a white female victim with a gunshot wound to her head in a back bedroom of the residence. While the victim was unresponsive, she was still breathing at the time officers arrived. Officers started medical emergency medical response until emergency responders from the Piedmont Rescue Squad and Piedmont Fire Department could begin treating the victim before transporting her to a local hospital for urgent medical care.

An investigation conducted by the Piedmont Police Department, in collaboration with the Calhoun County District Attorney’s Office and CFAF, revealed that the shooting stemmed from a domestic argument between the victim and her boyfriend, identified as 42-year-old Damien Michael Bailey of Piedmont.

Bailey has been charged with Murder, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was taken into custody and transported to the Calhoun County Jail, where he is being held without bond. An Aniyah’s Law hearing will be scheduled in Calhoun County Court to determine his eligibility for bond.

The victim’s name is being withheld at this time out of respect for her family. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather evidence surrounding the circumstances of the shooting.
