Jacksonville, AL – Jacksonville State University (Jax State) continues its upward trajectory, breaking its enrollment record for the fourth consecutive year in Fall 2024. The university now boasts 9,955 students, an increase of 283 students from last year’s record of 9,672, solidifying its growth streak.

“The steady growth we’ve seen over the past few years speaks volumes about the dedication of our faculty, staff, and the entire Gamecock community,” said Jax State President Dr. Don C. Killingsworth, Jr. “Students and their families continue to choose Jax State for the exceptional education and experience we provide, and we are committed to building a campus environment where students can thrive.”

The university saw notable increases in undergraduate enrollment, growing from 8,378 students in Fall 2023 to 8,663 in Fall 2024. In addition to student enrollment, Jax State saw a significant rise in Credit Hour Production, with 2,663 more credit hours generated compared to last year, further showcasing the university’s success in attracting and retaining students.

Looking ahead, Jax State has opened applications for Spring 2025 and Fall 2025. Last week marked Free Application Week, allowing prospective students to apply without paying the usual application fee. To further engage potential students, the university hosted a Fall Preview Day, the first on Saturday, Sept. 21, and will hold another on  Saturday, Oct. 23.

Additionally, for those interested in pursuing advanced degrees, Jax State will host a Graduate Programs Information Fair on Oct. 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Theron Montgomery Building (TMB) Auditorium. This event will offer prospective graduate students the chance to meet faculty, learn about financing options, and apply for graduate school for free. Registration is available online.

Jax State’s ongoing growth reflects the university’s strong reputation for delivering quality education and student support, positioning itself as a top choice for students across the region.

the only problem is they refuse to pay the housekeeping, and other staff a livable wage. So Way to go Getting more students means more work for the housekeeping, Maintenance, groundkeepers, and other supporting staff. But no one wants to report on how low their pay is compared to the rest of the staff. I know from personal experience. The ones that do the work no one wants to hear about. Keeping the grounds clean. Making sure the water and power are working. Cleaning up after 9,955 students. Let's see y'all do that kind of work. They don't need a shake of a hand and a pat on the back. Give them better pay
