Oxford Gears Up for Annual “Halloweek” Celebration

Oxford, AL – The city of Oxford is set to transform into the heart of autumn festivities with its much-anticipated annual “Halloweek,” running from October 19 to October 31. This family-friendly celebration promises a variety of events designed to bring the community together for some spirited fun.

“Oxford takes great pride in being a family-friendly city,” remarked Mayor Alton Craft. “I don’t think it’s possible to downgrade the importance of providing opportunities such as these, which bring our community together in a safe environment to have some good, clean fun. You can’t put a price on a child’s smile or a family making memories. The City Council and I appreciate the hard work and effort by all our city departments that make this fun week even better every year.”

The festivities kick off on Saturday, October 19, with a trio of unique events sponsored by Historic Main Street Oxford and the city. From noon until 6 p.m., the Fall Market on Main will offer shoppers a diverse selection of artisans, crafts, pets, and food vendors. Attendees can also enjoy special photo opportunities around Simmons Park, including a photo booth, themed signs, and a giant pumpkin.

Starting at 4 p.m., the second annual “Howl-O-Ween on Main” invites dog owners to showcase their furry friends in festive costumes. Sponsored by Ulti Mutt Bakery, this event offers prizes for the best-dressed canines and promises a tail-wagging good time.

The excitement continues at 6 p.m. with the fifth annual “Witches Ride & Walk on Main.” Participants, adorned as their favorite witches, warlocks, or goblins, will take a spirited stroll through downtown Oxford, sharing candy with spectators along the way.

On Sunday, October 27, Oxford will host the “Battle at the Big House” at Choccolocco Park, featuring four prominent college softball teams. The matchup kicks off at noon with Northeast Alabama Community College facing off against the University of Auburn at Montgomery, followed by the University of Alabama competing against Jacksonville State at 2:30 p.m. General admission tickets are priced at $10, while kids aged 12 and under can enter for free. Choccolocco Park is located at 954 Leon Smith Parkway.

The festivities continue on Monday, October 28, as the Oxford Performing Arts Center presents Lightwire Theatre’s “Dino-Light.” This glow-in-the-dark performance, which begins at 6 p.m., combines puppetry, technology, and dance to create a mesmerizing experience for audiences of all ages. Tickets are available at the OPAC box office located at 100 Choccolocco Street or through the OPAC website.

With a packed schedule of engaging events, the city of Oxford invites families and friends to join in the seasonal celebration, making this Halloweek one to remember.
