The weatherman has spoken, and he’s predicting more snow for California soon.

It’s been a solid year in the Sierras so far with a few resorts hovering around the 300’ mark for the season after the huge dump a few weeks ago. Hopefully, this one won’t shut down every highway and resort.

Since then it’s been a bit dry, but the storm coming this weekend and through next weekend will provide.

“The pattern starts to shift on Friday with increasing winds and clouds, along with cooler temperatures and a few rain showers possible by afternoon. Rain & snow Friday night and snow showers for Saturday into Saturday night. Scattered snow showers and clearing on Sunday. The cold & unsettled pattern continues through the last week of March,” wrote Bryan Allegretto, Tahoe forecaster for Open Snow.

Allegretto is also expecting some lifts to close today with gusts reaching 70 MPH across the ridges and possible rain showers with warm temperatures.

Friday and Saturday could see snow totals close to two feet for Palisades, Kirkwood, and Sugar Bowl, and up to a foot for Mt. Rose, Heavenly, and Northstar at higher elevations.

Sunday could see another few inches before it tails off for two or three days into Wednesday of next week.

“The storm door remains open through next Saturday the 30th, with a storm forecast to move through Wednesday night into Thursday,” says Allegretto.

Milke Korotkin, the Mammoth meteorologist for Open Snow, is also expecting some decent snowfall over the weekend with “upwards of 18 inches on the high end but over a foot is likely,” and is confident for more snow into next weekend.

“We could see a quick break on Thursday before another stronger storm is possible Friday into next weekend. This storm is well over 5 days out but currently looks to be the strongest of the series. I'll be updating on it as we get closer,” wrote Korotkin.

The March madness continues, so bust out your pow sticks and call in sick on Monday.
