Dave Portnoy Concocts Theory That Debate Was Ploy to Replace Biden With Gavin Newsom: ‘They Wanna Whack Him!’

Barstool founder Dave Portnoy on Friday pushed the baseless theory that President Joe Biden was set up for failure in his debate with Donald Trump so he can be replaced by California Gov. Gavin Newsom .

On both cable and the internet, Biden’s performance throughout the 90-minute debate was largely panned, with many pointing to him regularly losing his train of thought and speaking unintelligibly. There have even been calls in the media for Democrats to choose another candidate to run in the 2024 election.

Portnoy took it one step further by claiming the Democrats knew Biden would perform poorly in the debate and would use that as an excuse to put Newsom in his place.

“The Democrats had to know that,” Portnoy said in a video posted online. “Why would you agree to a debate with Biden at this stage — the earliest debate of all time — when you know he’s gone, when you know he can’t speak, when you know he’s a vegetable? Because they wanna whack him… They know he is not going to be the nominee.

“I said this 10 months ago, 11 months ago, when Gavin Newsom — and go look who’s trending: Gavin Newsom. When Gavin Newsom was in China being an idiot, playing basketball against these little kids, he steamrolls one of them, then like molests him after. I’m like, ‘This guy’s gonna run for president.’ It’s so obvious. Why is a governor taking a tour of the world? For what purpose? Because he knew and the Democrats have known Joe Biden is gone.”

Unfortunately for Portnoy, the theory doesn’t hold up under the slightest scrutiny. Biden ultimately had the final say in the debate; and despite the poor showing on Thursday, he’s adamant on going through with the scheduled debate in September.

Additionally, Democrats — including former President Barack Obama — have reaffirmed their support for Biden.
