How is Gavin Newsom making California worse today?

It is just an average week in the United States, which means that Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) is finding more ways to make California worse.

On Monday, Newsom took two different actions on legislation sent to his desk. The first was to sign into law a ban on schools being able to inform parents that their children are identifying as transgender at school. In other words, Newsom affirmed California Democrats want schools to keep secrets about children’s mental health from their parents because, in Newsom’s opinion, it is the job of school administrators to act in place of parents in accordance with the tenets of transgender activism.

Newsom should have vetoed that bill, but he saved that action for another. Newsom vetoed a bill that would require his administration to review the money sent to localities to address homelessness annually. The bill was so uncontroversial that it passed the legislature unanimously , with not a single vote against it in either chamber or even in committee.

Newsom gave two excuses for this veto. The first is that it would be “redundant” because he has already taken actions to track this spending though, given that his administration has lost track of $24 billion in homelessness spending, it is safe to say that an outside push is needed. The second excuse was even better: Newsom claimed the bill would create “an unnecessary workload.”

Yes, that’s right, it would be too much work to track the billions of dollars California spends on homelessness annually to make sure that money isn’t being wasted. It may even interfere with Newsom’s new podcasting schedule . Isn’t that far more important than billions in taxpayer funds?

Newsom continues to be the worst governor in the country, almost as if he is conducting an experiment to see how much self-sabotage it takes to run a state with as many natural advantages as California into the ground. Regardless of how you want to look at it, California has been on a downward trajectory under Newsom, and it will continue in that direction while he remains focused on trying to position himself to run for president in the future.
