‘The Final Straw’: Musk Vows to Move X Out Of California Over New Trans Law

Controversial billionaire Elon Musk vowed to move X, formerly known as Twitter, out of California following Governor Gavin Newsom (D) signing a new law regarding trans students in public schools.

“This is the final straw,” Musk wrote on X, adding, “Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas.” Musk added in a follow up post, “And 𝕏 HQ will move to Austin” from its longtime hometown of San Francisco.

Musk made the comment while sharing another post on X lamenting a new law signed by Newsom on Monday. “So the state is the parent in California now,” wrote the user sharing an angry post from anti-LGBTQ activist “Libs of TikTok,” who urged her followers to “Get your kids out of public schools.”

NBC’s local California affiliate, KCRA3, wrote that the “bill prohibits school districts from having policies that require parents to be notified if their child identifies as transgender. The passage of Assembly Bill 1955 comes after several school districts across the state put parental notification policies in place. Some of those policies have been challenged in court.”

“I did make it clear to Governor Newsom about a year ago that laws of this nature would force families and companies to leave California to protect their children,” added Musk, who has an estranged child who is trans.

Musk endorsed former President Donald Trump over the weekend and has since said he would donate $45 million a month to a new pro-Trump super PAC between now and the election.
