    Rite Aid Is Closing These 53 Stores in 2024

    The consequences of Rite Aid's announcement on October 15, 2023 that it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy continue to ripple through its organization.

    The chain then announced it would close over 150 locations as part of the bankruptcy and recently added additional stores.

    1. California

    The 16 locations in California were the most significant for any state that has announced additional closures.

    The company has a total of 379 stores in California.

    2. Connecticut

    • 1360 Boston Post Road, Milford, CT 06460

    The Milford location joins two other locations in Bethel and New Haven that were in the original group of 154 locations Rite Aid announced would be shut down in October.

    3. Delaware

    • 17069 South Dupont Highway, Harrington, DE 19952

    The Harrington location will be the third Rite Aid shut down as part of Rite Aid's plans after filing for bankruptcy.

    4. Idaho

    According to Rite Aid's announcement, three locations in Idaho will be shut down.

    Rite Aid has nine locations in the state, including three left in Boise, with the closure of this location.

    5. Maryland

    • 250 West Chase Street, Baltimore, MD 21202
    • 798 Sunburst Highway, Cambridge, MD 21613

    Baltimore will be hit harder than other cities in Maryland, with three locations shutting down, the most of any city in the state.

    6. Massachusetts

    Massachusetts had only one location on the initial list of closures. The three closures total have reduced Massachusetts to five Rite Aid locations.

    7. Michigan

    Although only two locations are in this second round of closures, they follow 21 locations that closed during the initial closings in 2023.

    8. New Hampshire

    New Hampshire had one closing on the 2023 list in Merrimack and still has almost 50 Rite Aids in the state despite the closures.

    9. New York

    The New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and the Bronx saw the most closures, with a total of four in Brooklyn and three in the Bronx.

    10. Ohio

    Ohio doubled the number of Rite Aid closures with this second round of shutdowns after an initial nine locations closed in 2023.

    11. Pennsylvania

    Despite the long list of closures, Pennsylvania remains the state with the second-highest number of Rite Aid locations, with 377 stores. California barely edged the state out with 379.

    The location in Hayes joins five other Rite Aid locations that were part of the initial list of closings in October.

    13. Washington

    The three additional locations bring Washington’s total to 17 closed Rite Aids, which are part of the company’s downsizing efforts.

    Bottom line

    Rite Aid may be leaving your neighborhood, but there are still ways to save money near you.

    One smart shopping hack is to switch your prescriptions to more affordable options like Costco, and you don’t have to be a Costco member to use its pharmacy.

    It’s also a good idea to sign up for loyalty rewards programs at other nearby pharmacies to earn extra points and perks when you shop there.
