Recalls happen for a lot of reasons. Sometimes an undeclared allergen is discovered . Other times, harmful bacteria is found . This rice recall, however, has been prompted by the possibility of the products containing rodent parts. While alarming, the recall is at a Class II risk. This means it is not the most severe case, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). That said, it’s still important to check if this product is in your home or was consumed by you or someone you love.

The affected product is Lundberg Family Farms Wild Blend Gourmet Rice, which comes in 1lb bags. You’ll want to look for the lot code 231004 and the best before date of October 4, 2024. Also, the affected products were not distributed in every state. The ones that did receive this product, however, include the following: Arizona, California, Florida, Maine, New Hampshire, Oregon, and Wisconsin.

According to the FDA, this recall was made because the products have the potential of containing “foreign objects that appear to be of rodent origin.” The recall being put under Class II reflects the risk classification.

Class II FDA Recall Affects Rice Distributed in Seven States

Or, in the words of the FDA, this is a situation where “use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.” On the contrary, Class I means that there is a “reasonable probability” that a product will “cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”

Although “extraneous materials” can be found in the food we eat, once the foreign matter reaches a certain level, as set by the FDA, it becomes unacceptable. Stay safe, everyone!
